two weeks

March 5, 2014

Ali’s been on a marathon business trip for the last 2 weeks. This means that for the past two weeks I:

  • Ate scrambled eggs thirteen out of fourteen nights (we had Chipotle one night…I really lived it up).
  • Had our shoebox sized bathroom all to myself.
Quality Time: A walk to Rockefeller Center.

Quality Time: A walk to Rockefeller Center.

  • Didn’t wash a single pair of someone’s thermals.
  • Made the bed in one second flat (the trick is to occupy a tiny corner, don’t untuck the sheet, and use a separate blanket).
  • Smashed my foot in a revolving door (this has nothing to do with Ali being gone but I felt the need to incorporate it into this post. Apparently I need a lesson in how to use a revolving door).
Lunch at the VERY overrated Max Brenner. Do not eat here. Ever.

Ice cream at the VERY overrated Max Brenner. Do not eat here. Ever.

And most interestingly, I had zero problems handling Maya by myself. For two straight weeks. She was literally an angel.

We’re talking Best Behavior Ever.

After week one I was so confused by her good behavior that I actually asked her, “Why are you such a good girl when dad’s away, but when he’s here you don’t listen, you whine incessantly, and complain about everything?”

This "pizza" was $9 and it was nothing more than a tortilla with sauce and cheese on it. Did I mention you should NEVER eat at Max Brenner?

She thought about it for a second, said, “I really don’t know,” and then she laughed.

Points for honesty I guess?

She loves time with her mum for sure. Or maybe it’s all that delicious food she’s been eating. (pizza looks delicious!)

    • March 6, 2014 4:00 pm

The pizza wasn’t very good, unfortunately! But the time spent was. 🙂

Both of you ate scrambled eggs for 13 days? That’s a lot of eggs. If it were mac n cheese or grilled cheese sammies, that I could do.
It is so nice when your significant other goes away for a bit. No messes, barely any cleaning and the bed is a definite plus I agree. My husband only goes away 1x/year for one week sadly. And he works from home 4 days a week so I deal with a lot of messes on a daily basis.(an to make matters worse…I have the luck of not having to work so I have this 24/7.).
I do not like revolving doors. I’m afraid they will stop and I will get trapped in them 🙂 I avoid them at all costs.
Maya is probably good because you give her all your attention. She has to share you when Ali is around? Who knows. Just a theory.

    • March 6, 2014 4:01 pm

Really good theory…she does like attention. A lot.

Maya prefers her eggs boiled so technically it was 3 eggs a day for about 13 days. Yes, that’s a lot of eggs. And organic, free-range eggs are $6 here in NY. Ridiculous. But necessary.

  3. March 5, 2014 6:03 am

Was the dessert not good at Max Brenner either? I had it on my list of places to try 😦

    • March 6, 2014 4:02 pm

Maya seemed to like it but it was more like an Applebees style dessert, if that makes sense? Quality was missing.

  4. March 5, 2014 7:49 am

Give Maya some brownie points!! It’s amazing how our husbands make more messes than the kids. You can also have kids clean up after themselves, but with a husband it is more difficult. To say the least.

    • March 6, 2014 4:02 pm

To say the least for sure Laurie! Can’t seem to get him to clean up. At all.

Maybe because Maya knows that you won’t fall for her tantrums? 🙂

Never been to Max Brenner and will likely won’t go there ever. Thanks for the warning. On another note, my husband loves to un-tuck the sheet, the most annoying thing! That and also his socks everywhere! Ughh..

    • March 6, 2014 4:03 pm

What about an untucked sheet AND socks in the untucked sheet? I’ve experienced this firsthand.

  6. March 5, 2014 9:46 am

Huge brownie points for Maya!! And I promise we won’t be visiting Max Brenner, thanks to you 😉

  7. March 5, 2014 10:28 am

I feel the need to cook (or order in ;-)) when the two of us are at home. If it’s just me, I live happily with a bowl of cereal for breakfast+lunch+dinner….saves the trouble of washing up too, right? 😛

You look so cute in pigtails! Maya is adorable, too.

  9. March 5, 2014 11:18 am

Haha! Honesty is the best policy, right?!

  10. March 5, 2014 11:25 am

My son is the same. If he is just with me, he is so well behaved. I think they get away with more with their father around! It sounds like a very simple and sweet 2 weeks.!

    • March 6, 2014 4:04 pm

Absolutely…Ali is very lenient. I am the bad parent.

  11. March 5, 2014 12:41 pm

This is a very amusing post. Congrats Ameena, hopefully New York winter will be over soon. you can have lovely walks in Central Park then and you wll not feel very old and you can enjoy your lovely city as well. Don’t forget London, and do visit us soon. I hope to catch a glimpse of you in Green Park one day, maybe at Sofra or Fortnum and Masons. These places miss you

    • March 6, 2014 4:05 pm

I can’t wait to visit London again! I’m hoping for a trip very soon. 🙂 Sofra is calling my name…

      • March 6, 2014 6:19 pm

It is screaming your name Ameena. Thank you for bringing those memories back. I saw your post on London and Sofra and Fortnum and Mason and it just made me remember those days of Internship in London. so last year, I found the courage and went and ate at Sofra and at Fortnum and Mason. Thank you and since last year, I’ve been there many times.

  12. March 5, 2014 1:43 pm

Ha! Sounds like you’re enjoying the time!

  13. March 5, 2014 2:38 pm

Hehe, it makes me laugh so hard that Ali has thermals 🙂 And man, even the bad food in NY looks great (this may or may not be the pregnancy talking) 🙂

    • March 6, 2014 4:05 pm

I think it’s the pregnancy talking…Max Brenner is no Ghirardelli! I promise.

  14. March 5, 2014 3:15 pm

The household work and day to day OCD annoyances definitely go down when the husband is out of town. Everything stays put. I guess they were imitating some sort of flatbread pizza??

    • March 6, 2014 4:06 pm

I think flatbread pizza was the goal but it was literally a tortilla! So confusing.

  15. March 5, 2014 3:27 pm

Ha ha. Julius is an angel when Abe is away too!

  16. March 5, 2014 4:36 pm

You’re daughter is just the cutest! I’ve only ever visited Max Brenner once and that was in Vegas. I enjoyed an overpriced chocolate drink, so yeah, I know what you mean!

    • March 6, 2014 4:07 pm

Maybe Vegas is better? I probably should have had a hot chocolate. But yes, it is SO expensive.

  17. March 5, 2014 4:37 pm

Nice to see both of you ladies enjoying some quality mother-daughter time ;)!

I think I need a lesson on how to use a revolving door as well—I got slightly intimidated everytime I saw one in NYC! And don’t get me started on the Subway turnstiles…

    • March 6, 2014 4:07 pm

Not sure why I am so uncoordinated. You’d think that at 38 I’d get it together? But nope.

  18. March 5, 2014 6:21 pm

Haha I totally use the bed making tactic too. It’s amazing how my hubby manages to make the bed look like there was a typhoon when he sleeps in it!

  19. March 5, 2014 6:40 pm

The bed making! I sleep like a rock- literally do not move all night. So it’s just so EASY when the mister is gone… The OCD in me loves it.

    • March 6, 2014 4:08 pm

I move but very little…the OCD in me won’t let me move any more!

  20. March 5, 2014 9:28 pm

I was making the bed the other night and Husband asked me “Why?” In this super snotty ( and not at all appreciated) tone. Apparently some individuals think it is a waste of time to make the bed since it just gets messed up again the next night. I think those individuals are Lazy. I also think spouses who are primarily responsible for bed carnage should make an effort to straighten out their mess in the morning.

    • March 6, 2014 4:08 pm

Maya asked me this question…I nearly lost it. She is more like her father in some aspects than I’d like.

      Bed carnage. Hysterical Andrea!

  21. March 6, 2014 3:45 am

Ali better watch out or he may find the locks changed and he needn’t come home again lol! 😉

  22. March 6, 2014 7:31 am

Scrambled eggs for 13 days, damn I so envy you right now. I can’t help but feel you are like in a celebration mood (since Ali isn’t around)…..

    • March 6, 2014 4:09 pm

Are you a fan of eggs?

Celebration mood? That’s one way to put it!

Quality mom and daughter time! This is like a vacation for you guys 🙂 Sorry to hear about your poor foot – I hope it’s quite recovered now (although I’m sure you’ll never forget the door!). I could eat scrambled eggs every night if Peter didn’t object. In fact, perhaps I’ll make some tonight … 😉

    • March 6, 2014 4:10 pm

My foot still hurts…Uggs are the only shoes that don’t hurt it but I can’t go to work in Uggs! At least not every day.

  24. March 6, 2014 1:50 pm

sounds like girl time was a blast! maybe ali should go away more often hahaha. it sounds like your stress level went down 😉

  25. March 6, 2014 3:53 pm

oouch that sounds painful..hope it is better now. im glad you guys had a quality time 🙂

    • March 6, 2014 4:10 pm

Thanks Dixya…it’s not 100% there yet but it’s getting better. 🙂

  26. March 8, 2014 1:20 pm

Glad you had some quality time with Maya and that she was an angel! And I do the same thing with the bed when Rich is away. He literally untucks everything and then steals the covers. I sleep better when he’s gone, truth be told.

  27. March 9, 2014 3:08 pm

I love getting peeks into your family w/ Ali and Maya! Xx

btw, did you name her after Maya Angelou?

  28. March 10, 2014 5:03 am

Why are they so good when dad is away? In my world, he’s easier on them so they have wiggle room and negotiate more. And eggs? What I eat every night Marc’s out, weird. Sorry about your foot.

  29. March 11, 2014 11:04 am

When my husband is away, my kids are super-naughty! But, I love the fact that Maya has been really nice and didn’t do anything naughty. Loved reading this post!

  30. March 11, 2014 11:48 am

we’ve always had a great time at Max Brenner’s for dessert not food.. it’s our got to place to take out of towners.. and is always a hit.

  31. March 13, 2014 10:13 am

Ahh what a lovely way to spend time with Maya when your husband is not around… I end up doing the same thing when my husband is away on work. first thing is to make sure I don’t cook and lot and spend time in the kitchen!

  32. March 14, 2014 11:40 am

We have to get our girls together. And no, my lazy daughter hasn’t yet written back. Ahem. I do think they would hit it off though. 🙂

My name is loveth anetor I live
    in California
    THE GREAT dr alexzanderhightemple BROUGHT
MY HUSBAND BACK TO ME IN
    JUST A ONE DAY.
i got married 4months ago. My
    husband and I have been
living a very happy and lovely
life. So as time went on, I
    began to notice this strange
    attitude that he was
    possessing. He was now going
out with other girls, to the
extent that he was no longer
picking up my calls, and he
was not even sleeping in my
    house anymore. I became
    confused and didn’t know what
    to do anymore. So i
    became worried and stranded,
    that brought so many
thoughts into my mind, because I
    have never experienced
a thing like this before in my life.
So I decided to visit a spell
caster, to see if he can help
me out. So immediately I went
    to the internet, where I
saw an amazing testimony of a
    spell caster who brought
    someone’s ex lover back,so I
    contacted him immediately
and I explained to him all my
    problems and he told me
that it will be very easy for him
    to solve, compare to the
ones he has done before. And he
    also gave me some
proof to be really sure of her
    work, and he assured me
that my husband will come back
    to me immediately after
he is through with the spell
casting. And also he told me
to put all my trust in him and I
    really obeyed him.
So it was 8:00 am on the next
    morning, when I was about
going to work, when i received
    my husband’s call, and he
told me that he was coming back
    home, and he apologized
to me, and told me that he is
very sorry for the pain that
he has cost me. And after some
    hours later, he really came
back home, and that was how we
    continued our marriage
with lots of love and happiness,
    and our love was now
    stronger than how it were
    before.
And these great man also told
    me that once my heart
desire has been granted unto me
    that i should go and
testify of his work right here on
    the internet. Right now I
am the happiest woman on earth
    today as I am writing
this testimony, and I want to
    really thank
    dr alexzander for
    bringing back my
husband, and for bringing joy and
    love to my family.so you
all there having dificulties or the
    other don,t worry every
    thing will be fine
So my greatest advice for you
    out there who your husband
or your wife is acting strange or
    behaving the same way
like this, or you have any
    problem with your relationship or
anything related to do with spell
casting, is for you to go
and visit this great man anytime,
    and i assure you that
she will be of help to you, and I
    am 100% sure that he
    will solve it out.once again
    contact him on these email
now..and your problem we be all over because I really trust him as the best spell caster in the world.alexzanderhightemple@gmail.com

Hahaha, never liked Max Brenner so much myself. Never had savory food there but now I know not to, ever.

  35. March 24, 2014 8:37 pm

Wow, I know I am seriously deluded when I see a small shit pizza for $9 and don’t even blink an eye. Why is SF/NYC so expensive!

  36. April 5, 2014 1:41 pm

I have been to Max Brenner several times, have never had the pizza but everything else, and I quite like the bald chocolate man. Sorry Ameena!
