About Me

My name is Ameena and I started this blog because I love to talk / complain but my husband is tired of listening to me. Actually, I do believe he is tired of me in general.

I don’t blame him. I’m kind of tired of me too.

Dinner at Asia de Cuba in London.

You may not be clamoring to know but here’s a little bit about myself:

  • I graduated from the University of Southern California because I didn’t get into Georgetown. I think my dad is still angry with me.
  • I’ve been married for 15 LONG years.
  • We have a 10-year-old daughter. Sometimes I randomly look at her and realize that I am a parent. This still shocks me.
  • I have very little patience.
  • My hair is the bane of my existence (don’t let the above picture fool you – it was a good hair day).
  • I’ve worked in entertainment finance for years, and right now I’m working on a film and two reality TV projects. I love it.
  • For half a second I thought I wanted to be a writer but then I woke up and realized nobody wanted to pay me to write ANYTHING.
  • I live in NYC and am unbelievably happy I’m finally where I belong.

You have such a beautiful family! And entertainment finance- that sounds really fascinating- my career aspirations include being in the television industry, more like International news (BBCWorld etc or my dream would be the Travel Channel!)
Sounds like we have a lot of similar interests!

Hey there – Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I lived in LA for 10 years and even worked for Paramount for four whole days (worst job of my life).

My husband’s sick of listening to me too – happy to chat anytime!

  21. January 25, 2010 12:45 am

Funny enough…not only are our names the same, but I also love to talk, yet I live alone and work in a place where I don’t have many friends, so there’s normally no1 around to really talk to, and blogging is my way of having what you call “a social life”.
Thanks for dropping in on my blog, I sure will be visiting yours…

    Hi Ameena,

I like your blog. you’re witty, smart and honest. you definitely should write a book.

I was reading an old post you wrote about having a low self esteem when it comes to your look. Allow me to say, that was the least smartest thing you ever said in this blog. I honestly think you’re Gorgeous – yes, with a capital G!- I mean, models-Gorgeous. If you were my best friend I wouldn’t wanna be seen next to you ’cause you would make any other girl looks bad 🙂

Once again, great blog, and wishing you the best of luck in your life.

    • February 11, 2010 6:38 am

Thank you so much for what may be one of the nicest compliments I have ever received. Seriously, complimenting not only me but my writing too? You have no idea how much I appreciate your comment!

  23. February 11, 2010 11:16 pm

Your house is super nice! From the two pictures I’ve seen, your husband must be rich because your house looks super classy.
I’ve been seriously considering becoming a vegetarian but I don’t have the will power hahaha. Chocolate is AMAZING. I once had a chocolate bar that had wine swirled into it while it was being made. It tasted soooo good.

  24. February 12, 2010 6:13 am

I agree with all the comments here. I saw your picture, and then your blog, and wanted to write straight away that you and your family are all very beautiful including your husband too. But everyone seems to have the same thought. I hope it can show you that if everyone has the same words in their mind even before seeing this page of similar comments, that you inspire people’s affections and that you seem a lovely person even with first appearances and also by the way you write and speak to us about yourself and your life through your blog . 🙂 And I am sure people all think god, I wish she were not married after we see that you are because you are very pretty (but wish you lots of happiness together), or I wish she were my friend. But it is the internet. 🙂 Good luck with everything Ameena and good wishes for your life. 🙂

Please don’t mind if people find you pretty, because at least for me, if i see someone so nice in appearance as well as that they seem a kind and nice person then i want to just say something nice to them about it and let them know that I appreciate it when i see someone like them. It’s a nice reason to smile for me especially when there are so many who get by without being nice natured. 🙂

Have you got a friend who is similar, lol. 🙂

Your writing is graceful and evocative. Engaging but without pretension.
    Well done.
    Keep going.

I should have realized, from your modesty, that you were one of us (Canadians).

It’s true. The world really could use more Canada.

  32. March 20, 2010 3:18 pm

    Hey Ameena,

I’m pleased that you liked my little spoken word piece and even more pleased that you took the time to take a peek at my blog.

If you liked that one, I think that you might also enjoy an article that I wrote. It’s titled “Towards an Understanding of Wellness”, is a few posts down from the piece that you read and is a combination of inspiration, introspection and out loud reflection.

To be honest, I think I wrote the article more for women because, (1) women seem to have a better understanding of the need to seek out wellness; and (2) so much of print, radio, television advertising and societal conditioning seem (in my estimation) geared towards getting women to buy into a very narrow, specific (and material) conception of what it means to be well.

    I’m rambling…and will stop now.

  33. March 30, 2010 5:51 am

“I love to talk but my husband is tired of listening to me.”

  58. September 19, 2010 7:20 pm

    Hi Ameena!
I am so glad that you found my blog, and thank you for your comment and kind words. My favorite thing about blogging is hearing from people I’ve never met before, especially if they have their own blog. I will certainly be reading more of your blog in time and will continue to follow the newest posts.

It’s so interesting to me to read about all of the places you have worked. I am not well-educated in business, finance, or anything related to it – that’s my brother’s field! At any rate, it’s highly impressive to see everywhere you’ve been. Also, you have a lovely family.

On another note, I looked at your book’s page. I look forward to reading it when you publish! Best of luck to you with it. I have many ideas for books, but lack the time to work on any of them, hence my short fiction at the moment. One day, perhaps!

    • November 29, 2010 3:48 pm

I’m lucky because these days my hours are fairly flexible so I can pick Maya up and take her to school, etc. I get up very early in the morning to I can get things don – gym, emails, writing, work…most everything important is accomplished before noon. Ali is not currently willing to move but if I hound him long enough he may just give in…

I am a native of Los Angeles and I love this city more than almost anywhere else in the world and I’ll take it hands down over London/New York.

Surely you can’t complain about congestion and mention those two cities as if they are any better. In fact they are more crowded, more expensive to live in and don’t offer as much to do or see.

Anyway, I look forward to reading your posts.

    really nice blog……

  88. July 18, 2011 8:52 am

Hey doll.. if you want to move to the East Coast still you can be my new next door neighbor =) I’ll babysit! ❤ haha

    love you!!!

  89. July 26, 2011 8:35 am

Isn’t that the truth? I know my husband believes that my blog is the best thing that happened to him! He’s not much of a talker or a listener most of the time. Why are men like that? Oh well. I am a fellow Indian…Indian-Brit in my case.
And if you move to London…take me with you.

    • July 26, 2011 8:45 pm

My dream is to move to London…at least you are closer to living there than me!!

      • September 20, 2012 8:21 am

Hi, i found this blog by coincidence 🙂
I have a question, why do you want to move to London?
I used to live there couple years, and to be honest it isnt as fancy as it looks like..
However, i kind of miss living in that big city instead of the small Vienna now..

Anyway, keep on blogging! I am your silent reader! xx

      • September 23, 2012 8:00 am

I love London because it’s just full of some much…amazing people, delicious food, great culture, love the chilly weather. But maybe after I live there a while I might think differently…I still want to give it a chance on day. Also I think Vienna is so pretty! I loved that city.

  90. July 27, 2011 2:09 pm

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Glad you did else would have missed out on finding about you! I really enjoyed reading your recent posts and I do believe you when you say those are his black pyjamas hanging in the cupboard! 🙂 Hope you have found a publisher for your book because I would like to read it. One of my friends works for Rupa Publications in India- I don’t know if you still interested or if the connection would help but could refer you to her?

  91. August 1, 2011 9:25 pm

    –So interesting.
I love your sentence about your hubby being sick of listening to you.
    I get it.
I say to mine “Just read my blog and you’ll see what’s goin’ on!”
    And about that non-fiction book.
I am searching for an agent right now, as well.
    Warmly.
    K.

    • August 2, 2011 6:47 am

Good luck with the agent search…I’d love to hear what your book is about!

You work at CBS too? How funny! Yes, London is on my list of places to live before I die. That and NYC. At least you are there already! How do you like it? I would definitely love to meet up on my next trip there – probably November?

  98. October 4, 2011 6:43 pm

What a great blog you have Ameena! Love your writing style and humor. I look forward to reading more 🙂

PS – A Fine Balance is my favorite book. I spent two days in total depression and isolation after I finished reading it. Nothing has ever had such an effect on me. Not even marriage!

    • October 4, 2011 7:32 pm

Thank you Gayatri for your very kind words. I agree – “A Fine Balance” stayed with me for a long, long time, the same way the movie “Precious” did.

I’ve just looked again at this post and realised you used to work in entertainment production. Would you mind if I emailed you to ask more? As a teacher I would love to know more about this area to share with students. I have prepared many a music student for university to study composing with a view to working in the media and I myself have (very distant) hopes to write scripts for TV and Film – so I would love to know a lot more about the kind of work you did! 🙂

Wonderful blog! Had so much fun reading too. Tell me about the East Coast move! We lived in DC and moved down south (oh yes, we did!) a few months ago. Strangely, this place feels more like home though I completely crave for the EC most of the times.
LA is that place I fantasize visiting and all that (does that make me sound like an over-enthusiastic tourist?).

    • October 6, 2012 8:34 pm

Thank you Vaishk! I think that LA is a great place to visit but to live? Not so much.

I love DC by the way! Haven’t been to the south too much but I hope to see more of it soon.

  116. November 12, 2012 10:09 pm

Thanks so much for the visit. What a beautiful family you are!
I just moved from the East Coast to California and am glad to be out of the cold winters and hot humid summers. I do love London, though.

Mayy I simply say what a relief to find someone that actually understands what they’re discussing on the web.

You actually know how to bring an issuhe to light and make it important.
Moore people must look at this andd understand this side of the story.
I was surprised you are not more popular because you definitely have the gift.

  128. October 4, 2014 12:59 am

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but
I find this matter to be actually something which I think
I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get
    the hang of it!

There’s no question that body building puts the body under intense strain and stress.
Smoking and drinking could have adverse negative affects to that
wonderful smile. It even tastes good, with a pleasant citrusy flavor so you won’t have
to fight with your kids to get them to take it. Many different
factors determine the nutritional supplement value for
any shipped food product. A lot of people struggle for
years to quit smoking and try a lot of methods. Often the baskets have a funeral theme, poking fun of getting older.

The dog grass rhizome is used as a tea for the treatment
of urinary infections such as cystitis and urethritis.

The gym where you workout probably offers classes which don’t take long
to fill up. Significantly, these babies had a 40% lower chance of developing eczema
by the time they were 4 years old. It’s very demanding, but it will have
your legs looking terrific immediately. But what can you do when you have
to spend forty hours at a desk every week?
