pachints

May 15, 2012

You know those days when you wake up thinking you’ve not only got it all under control but you’re doing a stellar job in the process? Yeah. Mother’s Day was not that day for me.

I’ll spare you the details but let’s just say that in addition to being on the same page as Absolutely No One, I was also in serious pain from a root canal I had on Friday. Add to that the fact that I had no choice but to pay $20 to valet park for my root canal and you can imagine my state of mind.

Anyway, when Mother’s Day dawned all I really wanted to do was to wallow in my misery. But then there as Maya hovering about my pillow and brimming with excitement. So I put on my robe and a happy face and headed to the living room where an array of Maya-made gifts and cards greeted me.

From card number 3 I learned that I have “good pachints” and I make “good choices.” I am “helpfull” and “kind.” Apparently I also make good “dersts.”

As I read I had to wonder: how could she possibly think these nice things of me? I mean, does Maya not know that:

  • a pachint mother wouldn’t roll her eyes when her child refused to acknowledge that John had 2 apples left after he ate 5 of the 7 in his flipping basket?
  • a loveable mom doesn’t tell her daughter “to stop sitting on my head and move to the other couch?”
  • my regular dinner offering of “pasta bake” is more half-ass assembly of fat and sodium laden ingredients than “nice food?”

I don’t know the answers to any of these questions. But what’s clear is this: My child thinks a lot of me. And therefore, I Must Try Harder.

Belated mother’s day wishes to you Ameena. Those gifts that Maya made for you are so cute. To tell you the truth even I wonder how can Purvi say ” I love you amma” when only minutes back I would have raised my voice at her. Guess that is why they are called children. So innocent and unconditional

Unconditional is exactly right…and from one guilty-feeling mom to another, a belated Happy Mother’s Day to you as well!

Oh how sweet!!!!!! I miss having small kids- now that they are older they remind me how many mistakes I made when they were growing up…but then they say, “But you were the best mom ever”….and I’m thinking, “Oh RIGHT!” ha ha!!

Hope you get to feeling better after that root canal- I hate teeth work!

You are too hard on yourself Ameena! Your root canal or those emails are still bothering you. I know it is hard, but believe me they are not worth beating yourself up over.I realise now that some people are just plain jealous of the easy relationships we share with our spouses and kids. I am like you and i did all those things you mention. My daughter and the way she handles her kids (she isn’t always sweet and soppy with them either) is proof that I did something right. Maya is going to be fine. Now go, splurge on an expensive pair of shoes 🙂

That is adorable. Hope you’re feeling better. A root canal paired with a $20 valet is enough to make the most pachint mommy want to wallow in misery. I got a card from my littlest guy a couple years ago that said, “Dear Mommy, I love you even though sometimes you are mean”. Hahahahahaha

And trust me, considering the food I was raised on and the minimal-at-best parenting I grew up with, you’re Super Mom. You know, even if Maya is spoiled, you complain a lot, being a mother isn’t that remarkable, and medication is needed. 😛 (That’s going down as one of my favorite Ameena posts.)

Nothing better than the words when they’re learning to spell. My favorite was “dersts”, do you really make good ones? Maybe their teachers plant card ideas in their heads, my son said “you are nice” in his card. I’m not sure who he was referring to but nobody has ever called me nice.

This is so so so sweet! I love that age when they are learning to spell… it’s just so cute. I helped some kids make mothers day cards that day and my heart was continually touched by what kids loved about their mothers…. my favorite quote was, “Mom, you make me feel speshell.” The little girl asked if I thought her mom would like it and my heart nearly leapt out of my chest as I smiled and said, “Oh, yes, I think she’s gonna love it.” So cute.

Anyway, what I have seen about kids and parents is that you have to make some pretty big mistakes to lose your kids faith. It sounds like you are a fun mom and Maya is grateful for the wonderfulness you bring to her life.

    Have a great day,
    Currie

I have no patience for math, either. And my kids are now in algebra which I haven’t failed in over 25 years. Still, I’m an English teacher so I give myself a pass on all things numerical.
(I excel at offering myself passes.)

Anyway, I love that your daughter included “words” on your card because I have plenty of those. But I’m quite certain they’re not always “meaning full.”

Ah, well. Can’t win ’em all.
