A Rocky Night

January 9, 2010

We had no clue what to do with ourselves today.  After going to the gym, making and cleaning up breakfast, and reading to Maya I had no more energy left.  And it was only 9:01 am.

When in doubt…clean.  So Maya and I bonded as we swept the floor.

She actually did a pretty good job and it kept her busy for a bit.  But when I looked at the clock and it was only 9:10 I realized that we really needed to go out.

So we hopped in the car and headed to my father-in-law’s for salvation.  Halfway to his house I panicked because things were pretty quiet in the backseat and my vomit-meter was suddenly activated.

When I turned around to check on her Maya was just deep in thought.  No barf in sight, thank God!

But a minute later she and I almost threw up from laughing too hard when we caught Ali in his self-described “sophisticated” pose.

We finally reached our destination, dropped Maya off, and took off again before Ali’s dad could change his mind so we could catch Up in the Air.  Since we only had 30 minutes to eat lunch before the movie I had no choice but to agree to lunch at a fast food place.  I seriously haven’t stepped foot in a fast food restaurant in about 5 years so this was a huge sacrifice for George Clooney.

We decided to try Rubio’s Mexican Grill because of it’s proximity to the theater.  I was pretty surprised at how nice the interior of the restaurant was:

The place was super clean and the menu was much more extensive than what I expected.  I ordered the Mahi Mahi Bowl special:

It was very good but I wish it had a lot more Mahi and a lot less rice and beans. I ate all the fish and about a third of the rest of the bowl before we ran to catch the movie.

It was really good!  Very interesting and engaging and funny.  I am not normally a huge George Clooney fan but I really liked him in this movie and thought he fit the part perfectly.

Afterwards we picked Maya up, stopped at Trader Joe’s to pick up a frozen pizza and headed home.  That’s us, living it up on a Saturday night.  I obviously couldn’t eat the pizza and really wanted something different for dinner than eggs.  So I thought about it, contemplated the contents of our fridge, and went with….eggs.  Sometimes thinking of something different just isn’t worth the effort.

Plus, I was feeling kind of gross that I hadn’t had any vegetables today and scrambled eggs go great with just about anything.

Ali is watching Rocky on TV for the millionth time.  I’m going to refrain from commenting any further on that.

Good night, all!

I’ve never heard of Rubio’s Mexican Grill, but it looks pretty decent for a fast food place!
I’ve actually never seen a George Clooney movie (gasp) but he’s nice to look at 🙂

Maya is such a beautiful child!

So glad you liked Up in the Air! And that ff restaurant you went to beforehand looks surprisingly fresh and delicious! If only ALL fast food was like that 🙂

Great dish. Mahi mahi with rice and all that stuff – sounds neat. I hear that movie is good – I am not a Clooney fan though…I know, weird in this world of Clooney-lovers 🙂
    Nice post…have a neat day.

Your family is too cute, and Maya is beautiful!

That honestly doesn’t look like fast food… lol at least not my definition of fast food anyways. And I know what you mean about just going back to an old, reliable meal… sometimes I’m too lazy to think of something creative all the time, so I just go with the tried and true.

I love Ali’s sophisticated pose! I’m glad you liked the movie . . . I might check it out!

What a cutie Maya is! Just beautiful 😉

Does she normally get car sick? Poor little thing!

It sounds like you had such a wonderful day and that mexican food looks great. I haven’t had mexican in a very long time….I should really get out to get some! I could eat a bowl of just the beans and rice!

I want to see that movie – my boyfriend thinks its HIS idea to see it too, so that means I get to pick a super girly one next. Its win win!!

Im not sure how bad my egg allergy is these days, but when I was younger it was as high as it could go. If I ate something that so much as touched an egg, I would have a migraine for a week. I can eat them on occasion now, but too much and I’ll start to get a headache.

Hello, thanks for dropping by my blog. Your daughter is so adorable and pretty 😀 That doesnt look like fast food at all…I usually think of burgers, fries, and the likes as fast food but it looks good though.

I understand what you mean about the veg. I go cranky if I don’t have enough fruit/veg too. Great blog!

hmm I have been craving Mexican food but the only problem is eating out is not an option for me and I am too lazy to make it at home.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Very nice to “meet you”. Before we moved to the “frozen tundra” near Chicago, we lived in La Jolla. Traffic around this area is like your traffic just not as stretched out. Yikes! Your dinner looked amazing! I agree with the eggplant relish comment.

i used to work with kids and my “never thought i’d have to utter” phrase was “please don’t poop on the twisty slide.” there was something about that piece of playground equipment that kids just wanted to poop all over. nasty!

Wow, you two clean up in 9 minutes? Super! And the Mahi Mahi Bowl special looks good. Probably the portions wouldn’t be sufficient for me. I guess, that’s why you are so svelte and I am me 😀
