#whitegirlproblems
At 8:38 pm on Friday night my space bar broke.
At 8:39 pm I gave up trying to fix the space bar and called in reinforcements (aka my husband).
At 8:45 pm my own live member of the Geek Squad said he couldn’t help me. He then proceeded to deliver a lengthy lecture about how I “mistreat” my computer. And then he went back to working on his own laptop.
At 8:46 pm I sarcastically suggested we head to Best Buy to get my keyboard fixed since apparently my husband could give a sh#$.
At 8:47 pm my husband countered with his own sarcastic comment, “Maybe you should. They’re open until 9.”

In other news Ali opened a car hood for the first time in his life. And he did it in his orange sweater.
It took me until 8:50 pm to recover from his unexpected smartassness.
At 8:51 pm I called up Lenovo‘s technical support myself and then resigned myself to the fact that this is a really bad year for me technology-wise.
Yes…#whitegirlproblems.
74.5 hours later I’m impatiently waiting for a box from customer service to send in my broken laptop. I’m also pondering this: Since my marriage was based on the foundation that my husband can fix anything that plugs in, and it’s apparent to me now that he can’t, what exactly does he bring to the table?

Ali better get his act together! 😉
It is high time you bought a new laptop. It would solve all your problems atleast temporarily. Also, hubby would serve his use in the selection and the payment process
I do have a brand new laptop! It’s 3 months old and already I have keyboard issues. 😦
LOL my husband doesn’t fix anything, but he is great at paying to get things fixed. The job gets done though, and I am happy.I agree with Anita though, a new laptop and a fresh start, maybe you’ll have a better technology year?
*kisses* HH
My laptop is new so it appears my fresh start isn’t so fresh. 😦
Your laptop is apparently going the way of the hooptie. It seems to always be failing you much like the hooptie is always failing me. Oh, and I’m in the market for a new laptop as well because guess what, it too died! :S
Newborn, broken car, broken laptop? I’m so sorry my friend. My heart goes out to you!
The same thing happened at my house on saturday evening when my internet stopped working but I kept on pestering my husband till Sunday afternoon when he finally made the call to Etisalat consumer care to ask for sending in the technician 🙂
And yes to my surprise the technician came the same evening ( Sundays in UAE are like Mondays everywhere else) and now my Internet is well and running 🙂 🙂
P.S: I guess we give too much credit to the men by considering that they can mend everything… poor guys are human after all 😀 😀
Wait…the technician came the same evening? I don’t think I can get past that to comment on my husband being human…. 🙂
Why is it that it is more disappointing when your own personal IT guru can’t fix something than when you’ve actually paid for the person’s time?!! I agree a new lap top and a hassle free year. GG
My laptop is 3 months old and is causing me headaches already…the future doesn’t look too bright!
lol @ orange sweater. My lenovo keys used to go like that too!
Really? So maybe it’s a Lenovo problem in general?
My husband has the exact same sweater in orange, green and blue and he loves them! Its almost like his winter uniform.
Its time you upgrade to a mac, Ameena. One of the best decisions my dad made for me 🙂
Ali has the same sweater in a variety of colors but I’ll let you guess which one makes the most frequent appearance….
Haha waaaait a second, doesn’t Ali work for Microsoft? He needs to pick up his game- no one likes a slacker :D!
Ali works with a technology company but it’s not Microsoft…still he has NO excuse!
Ugh. Technology. I swear I’m always 5 years behind.
A broken space bar for me would be devastating. At least let it be a little-used letter of the alphabet!
Exactly! Why not one of the numbers?
Ahh the orange sweater. Can’t make this stuff up!
If I took a similar issue to Vishnu, my computer would be in a million different pieces. He loves to take things apart and admits that 99% of the time he can fix the problem, but it’s that 1% that I worry about!
I’d worry about the 1% too but luckily Ali hasn’t attempted to take my laptop apart. Yet.
The orange sweater?!? No really, that sounds like his strong suit at the moment. I have exactly the opposite problem. Ralph is occasionally good with electrical thingys around the house but do not talk computer. I recently told him I was excitied because I learned to use a jump drive. He jumped up in the air and gave me a blank stare. I think we have twins separated by a continent and about 30 years. Oh, yeah, he’s a smart ass, too!
The smart ass factor seems to be more common these days… 🙂
Isn’t it obvious?!? The orange sweater.
So lucky me I guess? 🙂
haha…this was so cute and yes, whatever happens to those oaths of “in sickness and in health” especially of technical sickness-husbands should be reminded on these more frequently!:-)
Definitely…he needs more frequent reminders!
I’m more fascinated by the fact that Ali opened the car hood. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Marcus open either of ours. Is this some sort of special delight I have to look forward to a few years down the road? Kind of like how the first anniversary is paper, another one could be…opening the hood of the car?
It only took me 11 years Kat. Here’s hoping you see it happen sooner for you!
Hahaha… it’s the orange sweater! It looks like Ali is obsessed with it. I like how serious he looked in that picture. There is always first time for everything I guess 🙂
He is obsessed with it. It takes precedence over everything!
Uh-oh! Ali better get his act together ;p
I’m loving your #whitegirlproblems .. I have these quite often.
Technically I’m only half a white girl so I hope people will cut me some slack on Twitter. 🙂
lol, white girl problems or I’ve been seeing #firstworldproblems a lot lately too! But technology is soooo frustrating. It’s crazy how we lose all sanity when it doesn’t function, and throw a tantrum like a 3 year old that can’t get a cookie, oh wait is that just me?
Not just you. I throw my own share of tantrums over things that do not matter! #firstworldproblems: so true.
OH you have me laughing again. But it’s a good point you raise. Misrepresentation can be a dealbreaker. Like the one time Shaune made Roti and it didn’t work. I looked at him skeptically for a few days.
He made roti? What on earth? Even if he attempted it I’m in awe.
Oh dear. Another marriage gone down the tubes from not living up to expectations. How very sad, my dear.
So very sad, isn’t it?
Hmmm…well apparently he keeps bringing that orange sweater to the table, ha! 🙂
That’s one thing I DON’T want on the table!
Baahaha – Forrest has this one wool-tweed-mess-of-a-blue shirt and I hate when he brings it to the table. So, I definitely feel your pain, Ameena! 🙂
Some days I think I might have married Brandon solely for his capably handyman ways. Any man that can fix a hole in the wall is alright in my book.
He can fix a hole in the wall? I’m impressed! Neither Ali nor I would have a clue where to start.
Hilarious! Here’s hoping your laptop gets fixed with a swiftness.
I hope so too!
Clearly what he brings to the table is that orange sweater, lol.
I hate technologly–and I swear it hates me. Here’s to hoping your laptop makes a speedy recovery!
Thanks Liz…fingers crossed over here.
So he can’t fix a laptop but he sure looks styling whilst pouring whatever that is into the Rover. I think a new computer is in order.
I’ll give him that…he pours coolant quite stylishly!
he brings to the table a bright orange sweater. done and done.
But I don’t WANT the orange sweater! I want a technically-savvy husband. As promised.
A broken space bar? What the heck? Do you have an apple? My husband thinks that Apples are the solution to all the worlds problems so….Anyhow, hope it gets fixed fast. Being w/o your lap top is a bummer. Knowing your husband though…I’m thinking there might be a back up.
No, it’s a Lenovo. And can you believe Ali’s “spare” has suddenly made a return back to his office? Coincidence?
Does he pay the bills? That should buy him some time. I rely on my husband for EVERY thing technological, and paying the bills. If he couldn’t do either of those I have to say he would be pretty obsolete. Sad cause he’s really funny and cute and I like him.
Ali doesn’t pay the bills literally – I do that. And why is a blog post for another day.
Could it be that Ali simply wanted his sweater to match the color of the stuff he’s pouring in? Anti-freeze?
The other way to look at it is that at least Ali is willing to admit when he’s wrong (::gasp::). Didn’t know there was a man alive that would/could do that.
Orange coolant!
Let’s not go crazy here…Ali didn’t admit he was wrong he simply put no effort into it!
hahaha – those illusions our husbands give us before we actually start living with them.
If I break something I get the same response. Love the orange sweater and that Maya is supervising the whole process. 😉
The funniest part of that moment were Maya’s smart ass comments, “Dad, do you even know what you’re doing?”
How does one mistreat a spacebar? Then, again, how does one treat a spacebar well?
Mm, word association, spacebar, bar in space, Whoopi Goldberg tending bar on Star Trek:The Next Generation, Star Trek:TOS, Captain Kirk, William Shatner, Priceline….. bingo, Ali must do empathy penitence for you by taking you somewhere fabulous asap!
Oh Leslie…I have NO idea. Much of what Ali says makes little sense – especially when related to technology.
hahaha hilarious post! Doesn’t he bring some amazing fashion to the table? 😉
Nope. His mom bought him that sweater, my mom bought him that shirt, and I bought him the pants.
Does he come with a warranty??? 😉
Didn’t you also have some key missing on your keyboard???
My last laptop was retired thanks to a broken shift key. My new computer has a broken space bar! Go figure.
As someone with technology issues I think you need another back up laptop just in case your husband is too busy “playing on his”. BTW is that your car he is putting the oil in? Maybe he is just switching focus and now will become a mechanic, maybe even a chef (without the dish washing of course)
Switching focus? That’ll never, ever happen. Especially since he doesn’t even know how to boil pasta. Or fill a tire.
Maybe knowing that he can’t fix it is better than my husband who tries to fix something that doesn’t really need fixing, and instead breaks it.
Hmmm. It’s a toss up I think. Not sure which one is worse here Deena.
Haha! I would say he brings your awesome in-laws to the table! And I married my husband because he was an introvert. That left me free to do all the talking. Now lately, he’s started to speak up. What do I do with him? 😉
SO TRUE! My in-laws are so awesome.
Ali used to be an introvert as well…he too broke out of his shell. Hence why I had to start this blog – so someone would listen to me!
Omg my laptop is broken too, so I feel your pain. Men don’t seem to understand how awful it is to lose an important piece of technology like that. Because, yeah, my bf couldn’t give a crap either. :S
Good luck getting it fixed! xoxo
Must be a laptop virus going around…stupid pun intended. 🙂
I actually kinda like Ali’s sweater. Hope we can still be friends :D. My hubby never strays from the neutral colours unless I buy something and make him wear it. Even then it’s like pulling teeth.
Hope your keyboard gets fixed soon. You should write a whole post without spaces. See what comments you get. Teehee. I’d probably try to play search word. 😛
I was tempted not to keep using my precarious space bar but I thought better of it. Let’s just say that Backspace is getting quite a workout right now.
****. He then proceeded to deliver a lengthy lecture about how I “mistreat” my computer.**
OMG, this could be Mr. Liverpool taking. I swear. He always “thinks” he’s right.
Xxx
.
“Thinks” being the key word here!
There is a sign hanging in my kitchen that says “When I married Mr. Right, I didn’t know his middle name was Always…” 😉
Love the sign. I think I need to invest in one myself.
haha you are a hoot…. 😀 … read it first thing in the morning and that just made it a pleasant start to the day 😀 …. thank you for being awesome 😀
Thank YOU Eddie for reading!
You know how to crack me up…LOL LOL LOL!!
back-up husband?
Is this the same laptop you’ve been having problems with?? You need to make them give you a brand new one!
This is my 3 month old lemon! Very odd that a key has already fallen off…
LOL his orange sweater is always there to cheer you up ameena!
Cheer me up? Or drive me crazy??
He brings to the table…erm….his orange sweater….erm……tell me something. Which is his wife a) his gadgets b) you or c) his laptop(s)?
His laptop is #1. Followed closely by his gadgets. I place a distant 3rd…
LOL! I always tell my husband you need a man for 2 things…
1. we all know what.
2. fixing things around the house.
i know what you mean… girl, just play damsel in distress and he’ll come to your side. 🙂
oh and that orange sweater is too funny!
I tried Honey! It didn’t work. It never works. 😦
I think orange sweater is starting to be a symbol for something greater in this blog! 🙂 I love it. I say you “borrow” Ali’s space bar! Although, that might be a world of trouble you may just want to avoid. 🙂
If I could borrow his space bar I would but apparently it’s not the key itself that has the problem…
Well, he brings that fabulous orange sweater for one thing. :)~ Sorry for the technology woes. A spacebar issue is a real pain in the ass!
It is! Thanks for understanding. 🙂
I agree with Julie, how many men have florescent in their wardrobe, that’s something. You could always crawl into that box with your keyboard, I bet he’d miss you then.
No…I bet he’d miss the keyboard far more.
I love your marriage. The two of you are hilarious.
Clearly, Ali is gonna have to make this up to you. Maybe you can convince him to put his laundry in the hamper instead of beside it? That seems like a fair trade. 🙂
The hamper thing? That’s a tough one Leah…I’ve been trying for 11 years with no luck.
My old laptop had 3 broken keys at one point for a long time so I learned to type by pressing down really had on the plastic bits – I feel your pain! I definitely had a repetitive stress injury by the time I finally caved in and got it fixed.
The broken space bar is not helping my carpal tunnel AT ALL.
Looks? When I get a PO’d at Rishi (for us, his “patience” is his defining quality so when he gets testy I really wonder…) I just remember that he’s hot. All things aside, the man is sexy. Maybe just use Ali for the same selfish reasons?
Isn’t that interesting? Ali has loads of patience so when he gets testy I usually know I’ve gone too far.
Wow, is that bad huh?! You’ve got to forgive that poor soul 🙂 Who, you ask? People at Lenovo of course. As for Ali? Well, y’all are stuck. Forever. And I meant that in the nicest way, possible. How? Ali & Tarun were brothers, at least last generation 😉
Forever is a word I can’t handle. I have issues with permanent commitment. 🙂
classic ameena! let me think carefully about this one…ali brings tremendous patience and let’s you run the show….that’s huge, right? 2 priorities for me;) and i’m v impressed he’s pouring oil in his precious cashmere…something i would never do! love the orange!
xoxoxox
His never-ending patience is really impressive – you are totally right Nadia! I don’t give him enough credit for that.
I take your question very seriously. The Spaniard can fix most things technology related. If one day this goes out the window I will be finding myself in a similar predicament. I need to think on this…
Let me know what you come up with! I’m still thinking….
Tell me about it…I was wondering the same thing when my Handy Man husband wasn’t willing to paint the exterior of our rental…and I had to PAY someone ELSE to do it. Seriously.
Andrea you sound so surprised! Ali has never once painted anything in our house. He hangs pictures but that’s the extent of it. I can imagine his face right now if I were to ask him to paint the exterior of our place!
3 months old and already causing problems? Time for a MAC!!!!
I’m a PC girl though! I can’t do the MAC thing.
I’ve got a 4month old lemon. I feel your pain. I feel like I need to use all my weight to push down on my “E” key. (so, naturally I just made a comment that contains 15 “E”s)
Hilarious. You would think he would be able to fix it or at least keep trying at all costs since that really is his thing. I hate when technology doesn’t play nice.
I sorta love that orange sweater. I’m not going to suggest you go for a MAC because I refuse to, as well, so maybe just buy the extra super protective plan next time? Just out of curiosity, how hard to you hit the space bar?
Oh my…just make him buy you a new keyboard to redeem himself 😉
Ugh, my husband always counters me with those types of “maybe you should …” comments. Hehe, husbands.
Well, there’s always divorce. If not from Ali, from the orange sweater.
Obviously, it is a good news that Shahrukh and Amitabh are now fdirnes. I hope we will be enjoying the movie ‘Bhothnath’. Yesterday, I’ve found a trailer on ‘Bhothnath’.
