and it's gone

February 3, 2011

These days I’m all about letting go.

  • I let go of my last pair of size 2 pants. I’ve come to terms with the fact that they will never fit me again.
  • I let go of the fact that no matter how much I beg and plead, my husband will not stop sending me useless texts.
  • I let go of my anger that I cannot eat bread anymore.
  • And last week I let go of what I consider a major concession to motherhood – the mom sedan.

Yes, my friends, the mom sedan is officially out of my life. For good.

Now I’m not complaining here – the mom sedan was nice. It was low-key and fairly stylish. It had charm in a mom-ish sort of way. But during my 3 year lease it felt like all I was missing was a pair of elastic maternity jeans, a “Baby on Board” sign, and a “My Child is an Honor Student” bumper sticker to complete the picture of domesticity.

I’ve mentioned before how much I dread domesticity, but at least my dread is now tempered by the fact that I have a 2-door car again.

So now all I need to do is learn to let go of my resentment towards Maya for taking my superstar metabolism away from me (and thus my size 2 pants).  I also need to let go of my anger at the man who rear-ended my 3 day old car on Monday.

I’m working on it. I really am.

size 2? your probably just 2 1/2 now. Besides, size two is boring. boring salads and boring sugar-less coffees!
My car is five years old, an old man compared to yours.

  2. February 3, 2011 1:10 am

That’s a beautiful car Ameena! Great choice of colour. I cannot believe you got rear-ended already though. Sorry to hear about that, dear. Glad to know both you and Maya are ok. Hope you have a better week next week.

  3. February 3, 2011 3:43 am

And don’t you hate it how the kids just stuff their faces with carbs all day long. Makes me crazy!
UGH. Sorry about the car. I am at the point where I wouldn’t mind if someone rearended me just so I could get a new car!

  4. February 3, 2011 4:00 am

Woo hoo, that car is freakin awesome daaaaaahling! How about you come take me shopping in that thing and we will go buy some size 4 jeans for you (oh the tragedy) and size fatty bum bum for me? — Who cares what size i wear when they are so designer anyway, ya know?
    *kisses* HH

  5. February 3, 2011 4:30 am

Sexy car! So is Maya old enough now to sit in the front? I can’t even imagine getting a child in and out of a 2-door. I can’t believe you got rear-ended… I hope it’s back to being good as new!

    • February 3, 2011 7:05 am

Maya is old enough to sit in the front but I still keep her in the back. She just pushes the front seat forward and climbs in and out with no problem!

  6. February 3, 2011 5:15 am

Oooh…I like your new car! I had a two-door and loved it but if I had to hear one more person complain about getting in the back without a door…!

  7. February 3, 2011 5:15 am

you got rear ended? why do i feel like you and ali have the worst luck with cars? i’m so sorry. well, regardless, your new car is AWESOME! i adore my 2 door car and don’t ever want to give it up, kids or no kids. it’s an irrational attachment but whatever. i also need to have a small car because otherwise i am incapable of parallel parking.. or normal parking to be honest.

  8. February 3, 2011 5:33 am

Oh no!! Was it during all the crazy bad weather?? What an awful way to say goodbye 😦

  9. February 3, 2011 6:02 am

NO! I can’t believe that happened to your baby. Are you okay? You need a hug.

I think my husband would hunt down that person and hurt them. Actually, I know he would.

  10. February 3, 2011 6:15 am

Why did you have to go and buy a car that I’ve been wanting forever?? why? Really, what a beautiful car though. I’d loooove to get a coupe, but my son is 10 and his legs will be taking over his whole body soon, so I’m not quite ready to go back to one yet.

Yep, like you, my metabolism was shot to hell and back with my son. I think my bladder also suffered as well as I have to go to the bathroom 95% more than before he was born. And those stretch marks on my butt? Let’s just say he’s lucky thats the only place I got em.

  11. February 3, 2011 6:16 am

    The car is so preeeetttttyyyyy….

And what is with all the other drivers that surround you? I feel like the little accidents and driving issues follow you everywhere! How unfortunate!

  12. February 3, 2011 6:18 am

Oh no… I’m sorry that someone already hit you! You’re fine, right?

I have a coupe and I think that it will be my first & last… it’s cute but I find it to be kind of inconvenient!

  13. February 3, 2011 6:19 am

    That car is HAWT. Yowza.
…as are you. In any size pants 😉

  14. February 3, 2011 6:22 am

You would get rear ended in a brand new car. Ugh! That stinks!

  15. February 3, 2011 6:36 am

Dude, you got rear ended in your new car? That is anger that I wouldn’t be able to let go…nope…not one bit.
Also, I am angry that you graced a size 2 jeans. Angry…kidding…slightly

  16. February 3, 2011 6:46 am

Great car choice!!! Is it bad that I’m looking forward to getting the mom van?? lol

  17. February 3, 2011 7:23 am

oh man. it’s terrible, but that’s one of my major fears about giving birth: losing my 0s and 2s. congrats on the sporty new car! i’m not even a mom and i have a mom suv.

Love. Your. Car. Keep it away from me because I would probably end up rear ending it too.
Kidding……….sort of. I’m a bad driver but I have a feeling I’m not as bad as a lot of LA drivers. 😉

  19. February 3, 2011 7:43 am

Your new ride is GORGEOUS! Screw the size 2 jeans. I don’t fit in my size 2’s anymore. or size 4. and I’m still super skinny =) obviously you are too. You’re a rockstar Ameena! Keep telling yourself that b/c it is oh-so-true ❤

    love ya girl! ❤

  20. February 3, 2011 8:18 am

Oh no, I’m sorry you were rear-ended! Hope everyone is ok…love your new car though! Definitely the silver lining, right? 😉

  21. February 3, 2011 8:31 am

Nice car! Sorry for the rear-ended thing 😦 Hope everything’s ok.

  22. February 3, 2011 8:34 am

I am personally not a fan of 2 door cars but I’m glad to hear you are feeling more yourself. (ps – amazing that you are a size 4 after having lovely Maya!)

  23. February 3, 2011 8:37 am

Wait, that’s your car? Have you not read the latest installment of “My car is a hooptie” on my blog? I’m guessing you don’t want to trade 🙂 Congratulations on the new car, friend!

  24. February 3, 2011 8:39 am

Love the car! But someone rear ended you in it already? I’d be PISSED.

  25. February 3, 2011 8:56 am

Hey Ameena! Ooh, I used to be a size 4 and now I’m a 6 and haven’t even had kids, so I don’t want think about the 8 or 10 that’s in my future;-) You’re so thin though, so I wouldn’t worry about Size 2. You might even look better now and not know it-that happens sometimes.
Ooh, and your car is beautiful! So sorry somebody hit it. I think that’s just how it is with a new car though. They are so shiny that they attract the forces of nature that just don’t allow for perfection (smile). I actually want to buy an older Volvo (1980s), so that I just drive around in a tank. Yeah…

  26. February 3, 2011 9:22 am

Ah, a size 2. I would actually be quite thrilled to be size 4, but I understand your sense of loss. It is amazing the things we didn’t expect to come with motherhood…as well as the things that bug us more/less than we would have thought.

    I like your new car!

  27. February 3, 2011 9:32 am

    That’s a great looking car! And I’ve never been a size 2…

  28. February 3, 2011 9:44 am

Umm if someone rearended my brand new car, I don’t think I could let it go. You are a better woman than I ; )

  29. February 3, 2011 11:25 am

I let go of my size 2’s when i got married, I’m still mad at the husband for that one. Well that and my addiction to fast food, but we won’t go there right now.

    HOT HOT HOT car!!!!!

  30. February 3, 2011 12:04 pm

Can’t believe someone rear ended your new car!

I laughed when I said you let go of the fact that you can’t eat bread…I am still working on that one. I just use imagery to imagine how sick I will feel after I eat gluten and then it makes it worth it to avoid that!

  31. February 3, 2011 12:12 pm

Girl, I am a huge Audi fan and am looking at the A5 for my next ride as well! I currently have a small “mom wagon” {A3} and I am not even a mom! Lol!

I am sorry the beauty was rear ended….must mean good luck??

    xxoo

  32. February 3, 2011 1:05 pm

    Nice car!
Letting go can be liberating, just deciding that this thing or issue will not have more power over my feelings than I have… kind of hard though 🙂

  33. February 3, 2011 1:16 pm

That’s a an awesome car. Congrats! on getting back to a two seater.

Which of those was most difficult to let go ?

The bread was definitely the hardest thing to give up…definitely!

  34. February 3, 2011 1:53 pm

Now that’s just NOT COOL., I think I’d take a very long while to get over my angries at someone rear ending my new car, a long, long time.
Glad you’ve got your car mojo back girlfriend, I imagine you’d be starting to walk with an extra kick & swanker & toss the hair with a bit of attitude again so who cares if the size 2 is yesterday’s news. There is absolutely nothing worse than seeing those Baby On Board stickers…., I mean ‘What are they thinking’ ?????

  35. February 3, 2011 2:13 pm

    holy geez, i haven’t worn size 2 jeans since i was 10.

i’m so glad you’re not into domesticity either, makes me feel less lonely on this side. 🙂

  36. February 3, 2011 4:38 pm

Letting go…yes, something I need need to do.

  37. February 3, 2011 5:07 pm

Loove the car my Toyota Scion is the same color welcome to the beautiful white car club =). Sorry you got rear ended I’m joining everyone else in hoping you and the car are okay!

I’m sure you look great in your mom sedan–no worriesssss! 🙂

Lady, I think you let go of as much as you can without holing up at a yoga retreat or starting a Juice Cleanse.

I’m currently cursing The Universe for the state of your car! A. The snap looks lovely. I’m totally on-board. B. Whyyy didn’t it happen to the Mom Sedan?!

  40. February 3, 2011 7:32 pm

looooove the car! sigh…I will probably never own anything as nice as that…
It is hard to let go of stuff- ESP old clothes. I think I will end up being a Hoarder someday.

  41. February 3, 2011 11:12 pm

Let’s be real. You are expecting too much of yourself. Your 3 day old car got rear ended? I’m pretty sure I would first cry. Then get really angry. Then scream. Then maybe kill someone.
Or maybe not. But I would be really upset, and it would be really hard for me to let it go. It takes me a long time to get over things that piss me off.
As for being a size 2, its kind of overrated anyway. You always look drop dead gorgeous. Having to get rid of clothes really sucks though. I guess that just means more room for new ones. Do I sense a trip to Bloomingdales coming on?

  42. February 3, 2011 11:56 pm

Well “letting go” is easier said than done but for sure it is good for our well being to learn to do that. Sorry about the rear ended thing for a new car but what is important is no one gets hurt. Have a wonderful weekend.

  43. February 4, 2011 12:09 am

and the excellent way of expression continues. AND SWWWWEEET RIDE i must say.

  44. February 4, 2011 7:18 am

I have a very hard time with domesticity too. It just gives me the willies. And yet. Part of me aspires to some sort of Martha Stewart-esque mojo. The aspiration is purely theoretical though as I cannot remember the last time I cooked a meal or did a load of laundry. Shhhh….

  45. February 4, 2011 8:14 am

I have a difficult time embracing the domestic, especially trying to do the crafty mom thing. Luckily I have a mom who is great at cooking and I can always bum a recipe or two from her when I am feeling a little adventurous (and my husband is getting tired of my quick meals).

    Nice car Ameena!

  46. February 4, 2011 9:21 am

I’m having serious Audi envy right now!

  47. February 4, 2011 11:44 am

    OH I LOVE AUDI’s

    GOOD FOR YOU.

I have a mommy car. when I am not trekking my kidlet around I want an Audi…or a Camero….or ANYTHING COOL.

and you got rear ended……GOD life is cruel!

That is such a beautiful car!!! I’ve had to give up the fact I’m not a size 2 anymore either. Maybe I’ll have a chance of getting it back though once I move out of the sorority house and they stop feeding up cookies n cream filled chocolate cupcakes.

  50. February 4, 2011 4:17 pm

I have a minivan that I actually love but one day in the future it will be nice to leave that behind. Darn those kids for taking away our ability to eat bread!

  51. February 4, 2011 6:22 pm

It’s a gorgeous car…I hope the damage was minimal and easily repaired?
Hope you have a great weekend 🙂

  52. February 4, 2011 11:32 pm

Let it go sista, let it go! That metabolism only gets worse, and unfortunately, we (and by we, I mean me) will reach an age where food will be our best comfort. So let it go!…oh and sorry about the Mom Sedan…

  53. February 4, 2011 11:48 pm

Your blog is fabulous, I’m glad I stumbled across it. I, too, begrudge my daughter just a bit for taking away my previously faultless body! (though I didn’t see it that way at a time) I have to reluctantly admit, the little buggers are worth it though. I have a two year old that I wouldn’t trade for a gaunt body in a million years!

  54. February 5, 2011 6:37 am

holy snazzy. That car is uber nice!!! Was thinking of getting an audi or a mini cooper next…totally different but don’t judge. Anyways, size 2 size POO! You look uber beautiful lady!! Size 4-6 is the new size 2!

  55. February 5, 2011 9:27 am

Sorry I haven’t been a frequent commenter lately, my cough turned pretty nasty and I think it is normalizing now. But congrats on the new car, it’s lovely-I love white, too!

and so sorry to hear about being rear-ended, I hope all is in order though. and don’t worry about the size 2 thing, you look fabulous! I’m size 2 x 3 and I’m surviving, ;). The bread must be difficult, can you eat gluten-free breads?

  56. February 5, 2011 12:30 pm

Oh MAN !!! I am so sorry… next time you need to get a hot NOT mama car in some crazy color like lipstick red or yellow, those cars do not get rear ended as often 😦

Hey snap – I drive a white audi too. And I totally agree that giving up bread is the hardest thing…particularly today when I have lots of amazing Italian woodfired bakery bread in my house. Ok, I will admit it, I gave in an ate some…quite a lot. Tomorrow I will be good again…
Needless to say then that single digit sized pants are not anywhere in my horizon!

  59. February 7, 2011 8:40 am

WOW, nice set of wheels there!!! Perhaps you might wanna audition for the “Stylish & Sassy Moms of LA!” 🙂

  60. February 7, 2011 10:58 am

Happy you can let go the sedan. You don’t need it…
Re: size 2, yeah, I’d like to hold onto some jeans/clother that are now tight..can’t let go of that yet!!

  61. February 7, 2011 1:34 pm

Confused. You do or don’t want a two-door car? Cause frankly, I find those really frustrating; you have to get out of the car to let someone in or out. Blech. I’ve always been a sedan woman. Call me boring. 🙂

    • February 8, 2011 1:05 pm

I love my 2-door car! Only Maya has to get in and out of the back – and how she does it is really her problem. 🙂

  62. February 7, 2011 7:08 pm

Purrrty. Are you gonna get a bumper sticker that says, “Yeah, I’m a MILF” hahaha, can you imagine!?

  63. February 23, 2011 9:55 pm

Love the car!!!! We looked at it before settling on our latest addition!
It’s the perfect stylish mom car 🙂

    I’m sorry about the rear-ending 😦 … it’s truly my biggest fear 😦

  64. March 3, 2011 5:02 pm

I smiled at the can’t eat bread line. It’s true. Once I hit thirty, pizza and burgers became my greatest enemies. lol.
