The Indulging Continues

April 11, 2010

Thank you for sharing all your nervous habits with me!  I do feel a bit better that Maya’s coughing isn’t entirely my fault, but Operation SMFC has still been in full swing this weekend.  Translation – I’ve been feeding her loads of junk while my patience goes into overdrive.

Friday night involved a trip to CPK for pizza and ice cream:

Saturday morning involved lots of bonding time.  We baked some Oatmeal Granola Balls, made necklaces out of bubble makers (don’t ask), practiced our letters, and just when I thought I’d go nuts from the coughing Ali dropped Maya at my friend Nadia’s place.

Meanwhile I met up with Kim and Lynn for lunch at Fresh Corn Grill.  Have I mentioned how great it is to meet other bloggers with whom I have so much in common?  Thank you Kim and Lynn for a great lunch and excellent conversation.

After lunch Nadia, her husband Shaz, Ali, and I headed to Hokusai Restaurant for a fundraising event for Developments in Literacy.  Ali and I weren’t sure we’d be able to make it because we had no babysitting, but then Nadia’s brother-in-law so graciously offered to watch all three kids while we enjoyed an afternoon of learning how to make sushi:

Followed by some of the most delicious sushi I’ve ever eaten.

I’m not a sushi expert by any means but this restaurant definitely knows how to make some amazing crispy rice with tuna.  I highly recommend it.

After the event we headed back to Nadia’s place to pick up Maya.  As a creature of habit I find it really hard to eat between meals and since the event was from 3-5:30 my whole schedule was thrown off.  I started to feel kind of nauseous for some reason so after hanging out for a bit we decided to go home.  As the evening progressed I started getting hungry but still felt nauseous at the same time.  Talk about a gross combination.  So while Ali munched on Baja Fresh at 9pm (yuck) I had some corn flakes.  I felt even worse after that, so I threw in the towel and went to bed.

I feel better this morning and am off to buy some decent luggage for my trip this Friday.  After years of borrowing luggage I think it is time to finally take the plunge.  And then later this afternoon we are taking Maya to a birthday party where I plan to let her indulge in tons of cake, ice cream, candy, and chips.

Operation SMFC continues.  I don’t see any improvement yet but I have my fingers crossed.

whenever i get nauseous like that it’s because i’m starvin!! it’s hard to read our appetite cues, but for me i’ve come to realize that food is the only cure for that awful feeling. a trip?? where are you headed? i need to catch up on your blog, i have no idea what’s going on in your life!

good luck with the luggage buying – remember to check out loehmann’s! or ross, if you can handle it….though i don’t recommend that place on a weekend!

it was really nice to see you again, ameena. you’re a very good egg.

How cool that you went to learn how to make sushi!! Andrew and I have made our own before and it’s a lot of fun. I’d love to be taught by a pro though! 🙂

I’m with Steph- usually I get nauseous when I haven’t eaten enough! Oatmeal always fixes that (for me) 😀

    The blogger meet-up sounded awesome!

Maya looks VERY happy there with her ice cream!!
Glad you’re feeling better. Sometimes if I let myself get too hungry, eating makes me feel sick. Doesnt seem very logical.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes btw! 🙂

Glad you’re feeling better, Ameena. I used to be super strict about my eating times as well, and I found I always suffered as a consequence of letting myself get too hungry. It’s hard to break habits, but the effort is definitely worth it.

Maybe along with easing up on Maya, you should try easing up on yourself as well 🙂

I’m glad that you’re feeling better and I hope that the luggage-buying goes well! Buying luggage sounds like buying bras… you have to try out way too many before you find the right one(s)!

I have several nervous habits- I pick my lip (gross) and I run my fingers through my hair WAY too much.

  9. April 11, 2010 11:38 am

that first picture is AWESOME. i totally love it and i’m not the biggest kid fan haha. i guess i missed your nervous habit post but i bit my lip until it bleeds and pick at my cuticles ’til they bleed. yes i know it’s totally gross but i do it anyway ha

  10. April 11, 2010 11:56 am

I also don’t like to eat at times that I wouldn’t usually eat…I don’t like throwing off my schedule. But then I think, what difference does it really make if I eat now or later? Nausea is awful though…definitely hard to eat anything when you’re feeling that way. Glad you are better today and good luck with operation SMFC!

  11. April 11, 2010 12:20 pm

SO cool that you learned how to make sushi!! I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling better today, too…

The picture of Maya with her ice cream is Sooooo adorable! 🙂

That sundae looks awesome — what a happy girl you have! 😀

  13. April 11, 2010 1:36 pm

I totally have an eating schedule- and hate deviating! It messes up my entire day!

And I’m jealous of the sushi- I haven’t had it in forever and am sooooo craving it.

  14. April 11, 2010 2:12 pm

I love the huge smile on Maya’s face! Ice cream brightens my day too. 🙂 Being nauseous and hungry at the same time is the worst feeling…glad you’re feeling better!

I HATE deviating from an eating schedule. but then again, it could just be ED related. you know. anyways, that’s why sometimes i don’t eat when my friends are eating, but that don’t bother them SOMETIMES.

    sushi! i love sashimi!
omg. your daughter is just too cute. totally would baby sit for you. =D

i get nauseous sometimes when i wake up and it’s dinner and i try to eat. NOT FUN.

  16. April 11, 2010 3:08 pm

Good luck with the luggage! It was so nice to see you yesterday! I just uploaded our picture… I’ll email it now 🙂

  17. April 11, 2010 4:00 pm

I love blogger meetups too. It is so wonderful to connect with people with such similar interests. Sounds like a good day. 🙂

  18. April 11, 2010 4:21 pm

I want some of Mayas ice cream sunday and cake and junk food…too bad I dont have a coughing problem!

  19. April 11, 2010 7:33 pm

The sushi-making extravaganza sounds wonderful! My husband keeps urging us to try to make sushi, but I’m a bit more of a nay-sayer. I should use this as inspiration!
I hope that you found some great luggage. There is this AWESOME store on 3rd St. (the cool, design-y part where I never go) called “Flight 001”. They have suitcases but other very cool travel “gear”.
I hope, by the way, that you got to indulge in something at the party!

    XOXOXO

    maya is SUCH a doll!!!!

i hope you find some nice luggage…tj maxx or marhalls always has great deals and although i HATE those places, for luggage, they are great. luggage = overpriced!

  22. April 11, 2010 9:30 pm

Glad you’re feeling better. Good luck with the luggage shopping if you haven’t bought some already.

Love mother-daughter bonding time. good thing you said not to ask about the necklace making cause I probably would’ve. Teehee.

And I’m so jealous you got to meet Lynn, you know how much I adore that woman.

  23. April 11, 2010 10:38 pm

Oh wow, how fun! You get to meet Lynn and Kim, AND learn to make sushi! Lucky!

We’re getting a CPK ON – CAMPUS next year!!! Excited. 🙂

  24. April 12, 2010 3:51 am

Eating between meals ALWAYS messes me up too! Those days when you have food dates at weird times are so hard. It’s impossible to plan around them. No matter what, your stomach is unprepared. At least, that’s what I’ve been reading lately.

For some reason, Maya reminds me a little of a tiny Natalie Portman in that pic. Maybe it’s the eyes? She’s a pretty one! 🙂

  25. April 12, 2010 6:30 am

What a lucky little girl Maya is… cake and ice cream to her heart’s content! See, this is why I work with kids instead of having my OWN. I can load them up on sugar and then send them home… poor parents.
Learning to make sushi sounds fun!
I get that nauseous but hungry feeling at the same time.. it’s the worst!!
And thank you for your SUPER sweet comment on my blog last night, it completely made my day when I saw it this morning!
    Have a great monday!

  26. April 12, 2010 6:33 am

Maya is absolutely beautiful. I think it everytime I see her picture.

The sushi event looks and sounds marvelous! I love sushi and would so enjoy an experience like that!

I hope that nausea doesn’t return, and that Maya’s coughing lessens. I think I had a “tick” sort of thing like that when I was little too, it should go away with time. I am so impressed with how much effort and energy you’re putting in to making her feel at ease, fulfilled, and less stressed.

  27. April 12, 2010 8:08 am

I’ve always wanted to learn to make sushi! I tried to make it at home once and it was kind of a disaster.

    Great meet-up!

  28. April 12, 2010 8:12 am

    Your daughter is adorable! 🙂

sounds like you (maybe just maya)had an overindulging weekend like i did! lots of fun and lots of food 😉

  32. April 12, 2010 9:44 am

Haha, Maya is such an adorable little thing! I’m glad that SMFC is coming along. Working with a room full of kiddos for my job, there are days when I just CANNOT stand the little ticks. The coughing, sniffling, pencil tapping, whistling. I feel your pain! 🙂

  33. April 12, 2010 10:39 am

i remember that feeling too, of always borrowing luggage from people until i decided it was time to be a grown-up (at age 29) and buy some luggage of my own. 🙂
    so where are you going?

have patience, operation SMFC may very well work. please keep us posted.

  34. April 12, 2010 11:09 am

I went to CPK Friday too!! Oh how I wish I would have ordered that ice cream!!

  35. April 12, 2010 11:51 am
