7 Random Things

January 24, 2010

This morning I asked Maya to choose a number between 1 and 28 to determine who would win L.A. Candy…and she said “Table of Contents Mama!”  Okay so I think we need to work on our numbers and listening skills a bit.  I asked her again and she picked number 19!

Spiceaholic, I hope you enjoy this book!  Please email me your full name and address so I can mail it to you.

Today I attended my first blogger meet up at Veggie Grill in Hollywood.  Thank you Lynn for sending me this picture!

From left to right I met Lynn (The Actors Diet), Kate (Cooking with Kate), Mimi (Damn the Freshman 15), Kathryn (Froyoaholics), Christy (The Actors Diet), Sophia (Burp and Slurp), Erin (Living and Loving in L.A.), me, and Suzanne (Trying to Maintain).

I had no idea there are so many bloggers near me!  I was thrilled to meet so many nice people today and I hope we can meet up again soon.

At Veggie Grill I ordered the Baja Fiesta Salad (Chopped romaine, papaya, avocado, roasted corn salsa, quinoa, cucumber, and cilantro with a ginger-papaya vinaigrette):

It was just okay.  Nothing special.  It just wasn’t very filling for some reason.  And I forgot to ask for it without the chips so I had to eat around them (gluten allergy).  But the company certainly made up for the average food!

Speaking of nice bloggers, several blogger have sent me this award:

And I have been very lax in thinking of seven random facts about me.  Well I finally came up with the following:

1. I have terrible eye sight and have to wear contacts or glasses just to see my hand in front of my face. I’d like to thank my father for this!
2. Even after having an ultrasound I didn’t believe I was having a girl until the day Maya was born. I wanted a boy so badly that I was sure the doctor was wrong. Of course I can’t image having anything other than Maya now.  What on earth would I have done with a boy?
3. I was held up at gunpoint during my junior year at USC. The guy stole my laptop and backpack.  Also during my four years at USC, my car was also badly keyed and one day when I exited the freeway near school a scary man reached into my open sunroof to try to grab my hair/head/earring? It is still a mystery. I had to run a red light to get away from him.  Go Trojans!
4. Telling my parents I was held up was scarier than being held up.  I “held” out as long as I could (haha).
5. I can’t seem to keep any of my plants alive for very long. I’m hoping to do better with my child. Four years and counting!
6. I don’t like lima beans or bananas.
7. I’ve always wanted to be a weather girl.  Too bad I can’t speak in public to save my life, nor do I particularly excel in science.  But one can dream, right?

I am supposed to send this to 7 other people… I’d be surprised if anyone other than me hasn’t done this so I pass this on to any commenters who have not yet received this award!

I also wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who reads this blog.  I do appreciate each and every one of you.  You have no idea how much your comments make my day!

This is such a great shot of you all!! I am going to go check out all the new names you have posted for us 🙂

Omg, you don’t like bananas? I go through fazes with ninners 😉

That is so scary you were held up at gun point!! You must have kissed that ground after and take a moment and be blessed you were still alive!

    Have a great night 🙂

What a lovely bloggy meet up!

I am glad you were not hurt in any of your incidents- I can totally relate about telling the parents.
My car caught on fire my sophomore year, I did not call my parents until the fire was put out and my car was sent to the junk yard.

    • January 25, 2010 10:31 am

Desi parents are scarier then fires and men wielding guns. How bizarre is that?

  3. January 25, 2010 4:01 am

My eyesight is very bad too. I think I started wearing glasses at 6 years old? Thank God for contact lenses!

I can’t imagine being held at gunpoint! So scary!! I think I would have peed in my pants or just faint in shock before the gunman shoots anyway.

    Interesting random facts 😀

  4. January 25, 2010 4:29 am

    What a fun meet up!

  5. January 25, 2010 5:00 am

Blogger meet ups look like so much fun! I don’t think anyone lives anywhere even close to me though lol…

Those are some pretty amazing facts! I can’t imagine being held up… that must have been so terrifying. I had a guy try to jump in the passenger side of my car at a red light, though. My windows were down, but thankfully the doors were locked.

I’m also bad with plants. The single one that resides in my room has been hanging on for dear life since I got it. I’m actually amazed at the little trooper it is…

  6. January 25, 2010 5:16 am

I’m so jealous to see some of all my favorite bloggers together without me 😦 I wish I lived nearby too! Looks like fun. Congrats on the award! Funny being held up at gunpoint…I’d be freaking out!

  7. January 25, 2010 5:17 am

SO fun!!!! You are lucky that there are so many bloggers right near you!

  8. January 25, 2010 5:28 am

Wow – blogger meetup…you live so close to people. Nice salad!
Thanks for the comment on my blog too…its true…if I cannot do what others do…then at least i can try to think like them (or be like them in little ways like: kind, nice, sincere, etc).
    Nice facts.
If Spiceaholic wants to give away the book after, that would be cool…I would like another opportunity to read anything free 🙂

  9. January 25, 2010 5:59 am

I too am basically blind without glasses or contacts. I also blame my father. And I’m too scared of laser surgery to get it done.

So, how did you find out about the blogger meet up?

Yay for the blogger meet-up 🙂 I like that the restaurant served a BIG, colorful salad

I can’t believe you were held at gun point! I’m applying to USC for grad school- eek 😕
And I also wanted to be a weather girl so badly when I was younger!

  11. January 25, 2010 6:35 am

i too have horrible eyesight. i have to put on my glasses to see the clock. LAME.

    • January 25, 2010 7:36 pm

My dream is that one day I will wake up and be able to see the time without fumbling around to find my glasses!!

  13. January 25, 2010 7:19 am

don’t worry, to be a weather girl you just have to have good hair (check) a pretty face (check) be able to read a teleprompter and talk to a camera. that’s BARELY public speaking! i think you should go for it ;). whoa how cool, never would have guessed there would be so many bloggers in your area, so great that you all met up!

    • January 25, 2010 10:33 am

You are SO good for my ego…thank you for your very nice comments! I need to join Toastmasters or something to improve my speaking abilities.

  18. January 25, 2010 9:54 am

That salad looks delicious, maybe it needed some more protein?

And I can’t keep a plant alive either. I’m AWFUL. I can kill anything.. even something that is supposedly fool proof.

  19. January 25, 2010 10:00 am

Looks like sssoo much fun!! I am so sorry to have missed it. I so enjoyed reading all those fun facts about yourself! OMG, number 3 must have been so scary girl! I am so horrible with plants too. I try so hard because I love the way they look in the apt. But they always end up in the plant ICU (aka porch) =) Anyways Im so glad you had a great time. Take care sweetie!

So exciting about the blogger meetup!!

I love your list. I was robbed my first week working at the bank. One of the guys had a gun – I THOUGHT they both did, but turns out the other guy was just wearing gloves. Great that I couldnt tell the difference.

  21. January 25, 2010 11:00 am

Yay, thanks! And thanks to Maya!

I loved reading your list. I too have a black thumb when it comes to plants. I killed a bamboo among other things.

Glad you weren’t hurt from some of your other items!

  22. January 25, 2010 12:06 pm

    Glad you got away safely!

I was almost abducted myself when I was about 4 years old in a Kmart. My mom rounded the corner before the man could take off with me..scared him off!

I can totally relate to the eye condition. I used to be like that. Took a laser surgery to fix it. Now, I can’t imagine being myopic. However did I manage?

  37. June 19, 2012 7:54 pm

interesting 7 facts. so far i haven’t seen any of your pics with eyeglasses i think.
and at gunpoint, oh my god.
there was this one time 3 years back two men on motorbike drove past me, pulling my laptop bag from my shoulder. it was my very first brand new laptop gifted by parents, so very precious. instead of worrying about my own life, i kept screaming at the top of my lungs and the snatching of bag kept going on for a minute like a game of tug of war. they gave up & rode away. i was an idiot to risk my life, but ….

    • June 21, 2012 1:28 pm

So glad that you were able to save your laptop…maybe it wasn’t wise to risk your life for it but I totally understand where you are coming from!
