and i’m back
Blogging experts say that if one isn’t consistent with their blogging schedule then people will stop reading.
As a person who embraces consistency and schedule, this makes perfect sense.
As a person who has been working 1,000 hours a week, this does not make perfect sense.

In any case, I know the world isn’t going to come to an end if nobody is here to read about how I almost died of shock when Ali volunteered to shift clothes from our stackable washing machine to the dryer the other day.
I also know it’s okay if nobody knows he asked me where the dryer was.

I’m sure people can also live without knowing that since my last post Ali has been in Florida (twice), Boston, Washington DC, Las Vegas, Los Angeles (3 times), and is heading back to Florida this week.
Both Maya and I have given up on trying to remember his whereabouts.

And speaking of Maya, I’m sure it’s fairly irrelevant that her smart ass-ness is developing at a rather alarming pace.
Scarily, I almost find myself missing the long, sleepless nights filled with a colicky infant screaming in my ear.
Almost.

This morning I woke up and decided to take a moment to put together what I hope is a fairly coherent post before I spend the rest of the day pretending that today, Mother’s Day, is going to be remotely different from yesterday or tomorrow.
Because even though this blog isn’t exactly a revenue generating machine, I do love sharing my randomness, and I value every comment left here.
I hope to be back more regularly…for those of you who are still here? Thanks for sticking with me.

I’ll always be here! Happy Mother’s Day.
Thank you Lynn. Miss you!
How I love your posts.

Thank you Tands! And thank you for reading. 🙂
I’m still here! And I’ll trade you one “nighttime is party time” infant for one pre-teen with ‘tude 😉
I’m still gauging which is scenario is more appealing A. 🙂
Good to see you back. Happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you Ellen! I hope you had a great Mother’s Day as well

Hurrah, welcome back!
Thank you Amanda! Hope you had a great Mother’s Day.
It wasn’t Mother’s Day in the UK (we celebrate Mothering Sunday which is linked to the church calendar) but I had a lovely weekend anyway, without feeling I *had* to!
I’ve missed your posts – welcome back. GG
Thank you GG! I hope you had a great Mother’s Day!
Great to see you back, Ameena! I took a much-needed break too because life got in the way but guess what- the blawg world was still here when I came back! I’ve come to terms that I probably won’t be posting as much as before and that’s fine- I’ll just blog when the itch to share my musings kicks in rather than because it’s a certain day of the week!
Totally agree with you K. I think it’s better to post less and be genuine about it than to post on a regular schedule and not be thrilled with what you put out there!
im on the same page as you guys – its so nice to see you Ameena! And K – hope you will stick around 🙂
Oh I don’t think you need to worry about your loyal audience Ameena. We love your posts and aren’t going to be disappearing when you get a bit busy. It amazes me how you get so much done. Blogging experts may have a point which the rest of us need to adhere to – but you’re the exception which proves the rule. 😉
Ken – you are always unbelievably kind. Thank you for leaving the nicest comments. I appreciate it!
not at all – all meant 🙂
Feels great to see your post Ameena. For I was missing reading them. Fabulous pictures of you and Maya. Happy Mother’s day to you 🙂
Thank you Nandita for all the compliments! And thank you for reading. I hope you had a great Mother’s Day as well.
Happy Mother’s Day Ameena! It’s good to have you back and reading your stories!
Thank you Amelia! I hope you had a fantastic Mother’s Day as well!
you are right.. absent for a long time ,, people forget.. As I am finding out …
good to see you back..
lovely pictures and happy mothers day
Thank you Bikram! I appreciate the nice comment. 🙂
You are welcome 🙂 i hope you remember me though he he he he he
I’ve wondered where you’ve been.
Nice to have your randomness, humor & adventure back! xx
Thank you so much! I appreciate you reading, as always.
i wondered where you went 🙂 um…i’d be pretty depressed if i blogged on the regular…like if it was my job?? omg. dead. i need to live my life…outside of the house! i need the interaction! i blog when i can/feel like it and it’s bliss 🙂 you’ll always have a reader in me!
I totally agree…although I’ve been busy, it’s been nice to realize that life really should take priority over the Internet.
I appreciate you reading M. 🙂 Thank you!
Happy you’re back. Hopefully you didn’t get a lightbulb for Mother’s Day 🙂 Your weather is probably as is our in upstate so you can finally pack away your ugly/practical boots and your Jessica Simpson coat! As I sit here typing, the guys are opening up our pool. This leads me to believe we shall have rain now for 30 days and 30 nights. A sure fire way to doom the weather. The mouthiness with kids continues for a long time. Mine are 23 and 19 and were here to celebrate Mother’s Day. I continue to not know anything. Oh well. Hope you enjoyed your Mother’s Day and am really very happy to see you back. Really…I am.
No lightbulbs, I am happy to say. I asked for chocolate, white jeans, a magazine, and a few other things. I received macaroons and a magazine. I bought the jeans for myself!
A very Happy Mother’s Day to you Seana! I hope the kids kept their mouthiness in check.
Love your comments. They always make me laugh. Enjoy the pool!
Still here 🙂 Who could pass up hearing about the latest Ali and Maya shenanigans??
Thank you Liz for sticking around and reading. 🙂
I wondered what happened to you!! Nice to see a post. It’s perfectly understandable that sometimes blogging has to take a back seat to life.
Thanks for the comment C! I appreciate you reading as always!
Always love your posts : )
Thank you Jess!! Hope you are enjoying the great weather here…we definitely are.
I have also been away! So nice to know that there have been other friends who have been quiet for a while. And as always, your post made me smile more than all the pictures of baked goods that have popped up in my feed. We always love to hear from you! Happy Mother’s Day!!
I hope you had a great Mother’s Day Meenakshi!
Thank you for the nice comment and for reading. I appreciate it.
Oh Ameena, I completely understand how impossible it is to blog when you’re spending every waking minute working, running errands or finally finding some time to spend with friends or family. That’s exactly how I ended up not writing at all during the first half of my semester this year. Anyway, my mum and I also never kept track of where Dad was; it gets impossible (and pointless) to remember after a while. And to be honest, there was a certain quality of peace in the household whenever he was away, and his sighting was more pleasurable to the eye if he’d been gone for some time – distance makes the heart grow fonder, they say, and it’s totally true.
I totally get it…the peace around here is pretty amazing when Ali and Maya aren’t fighting like children.
Distance definitely makes the heart grow fonder.
Thanks for the nice comment my friend!
Welcome back! So happy to see you!
Wish we could have met up last week, but it was super hectic. Next time for sure!
I hope you enjoyed your trip! Sorry we couldn’t get together either, but I hope you’ll be back soon!
i feel like we haven’t connected in awhile (i’m also blogging less but still trying to be around!) but i miss your posts! welcome back.
Thank you Daisy! It’s nice to see you around. 🙂
We should start a blogger support group for all us us who have blogger guilt and a life 🙂 I’m always happy to read whatever you write whenever you write it!
Thank you Elaine! If I lived in Paris, as you do, I’d definitely give up the blog, due to having too much of a life. 🙂
So nice to see that you are back.. I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms without your weekly dose of randomness! 🙂
Such a nice thing to say. 🙂 Thank you for reading Priya!
So I’m a liiiiitle late to the game, but just wanted to say: REALLY FRIGGIN HAPPY YOU’RE BACK ❤
Thank you Razwana! I really appreciate all the nice comments…I suddenly feel motivated to blog away. 🙂
You are out living life which, in my opinion, takes so much more priority over blogging. Hope you were treated and pampered well on Mom’s Day 🙂
Totally agree that living life is more of a priority. I need a bit more life outside of the office though…
Happy Mother’s day!!
Thank you K! I hope you had a great Mother’s Day as well.
I love , love your posts !! Please keep writing.
Happy Mother days to you 🙂
Thank you ITT – I appreciate you reading!
I hope you had a great Mother’s Day as well.
I found your blog a few months ago and within a couple of weeks, I had read the whole thing. Your humor always brings a smile to my face. I’m glad to see you back.
Wow Swapna…some of my old posts are just scary. I’m glad you didn’t get scared away!
Thank you for reading and for the nice comment. 🙂
Love your posts. Hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day.
Thank you Lail! I hope you had a great Mother’s Day as well.
Me too. Love it.
Thank you Sapna…is this my LA friend Sapna??
I’ve loved this blog for over 2 years now!!! Wait, you don’t live in LA anymore? 😦 How will I babysit for Maya?
No I escaped to NYC almost a year ago. Best decision ever. 🙂
Ugh I’ve been away from the blogworld for too long. That is both good and bad. LA misses you! Plus it’s like 100 here this week. However, I have escaped from LA too, starting today. 🙂 Very happy I did. Were you able to bring your job remotely?
Where did you escape to?
HI.
luckily, BF goes to grad school here…
It’s ok. Hang in there Ameena. Love, from a working-1000h-a-week mum to another.
Khal…sorry to hear your work schedule is as crazy as mine. Thank you for fitting in the nice comment.
You hang in there too!
Where were you! Your last post was 5 weeks ago. I really missed them. DO MORE BLOGGING.
And happy Mother’s day to you.
Wow Gary…such a nice comment. Thank you for making me feel so important, I really do appreciate it.
I missed your posts, but I know what you mean, its really hard to constantly update your blog when life is so chaotic.
I love the pic of you and Maya at the end. I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day.
*kisses* H
Thank you Heavenly…I’m hoping that we can find time to catch up properly, when I come to your neck of the woods this summer!
p.s. can you please send me your email address? There’s something I want to tell you.
Absolutely, I will email you shortly.
Welcome back Ameena. I miss you and your blog and Maya and Ali 🙂 Happy Mother’s Day to you too – hope Ali was behaving himself 😉
Lydia! So nice to read your comments again. I hope that you had a fabulous Mother’s Day!
I’ve been coming back religiously every wednesday – so religiously that I only checked your blog today and missed out for a whole 3 days!!!
What a lovely pic of you and maya..
Thank you for the nice comment Archana and for reading! I appreciate it.
I’m here! I’m here! When I’m gone, I’m not just gone from here, but from everywhere because Internet is broken, or I’m overwhelmed, or I’m working on another book, or something like that.
But I love your randomness. And I love your picture next to Lady Liberty.
Thanks Jennie…I’m hoping to come to Paris again this summer. Would love lunch on the Champs-Elysees again. 🙂
We can share more randomness!
As if your friends and readers would ever leave you! Happy Very-Belated Mother’s Day! I hope Maya got it together and did something special for you, or you at least did something for yourself. Have a wonderful weekend!
A very belated thank you Jenna for your comment and for reading! I hope that you have the most amazing long weekend. 🙂
Still here and glad you had a Happy happy mother’s day. I missed your posts and reading about the randomness that goes on in your life. Is it just me or does Maya look prettier in the pics now 🙂
So nice of you to say…thanks for reading HM.
PS: Maya had a haircut. I think that made all the difference. 🙂
Happy (belated) Mother’s day! I’ll always be here – I can never get enough of your posts! I only wish there were more because I your posts are always so hilarious and wonderful at the same time, but I totally understand about having -1000 hrs in a day.
Love the pic of you and Maya and the Statue of Liberty 🙂
Thank you Jessie for the nice compliment and for sticking around. 🙂 I appreciate it!
I keep coming back every so often and saw the 7-11 post, so welcome back! We need your randomness, at least it will keep me sane in my weekly 1000 hour work 🙂
Sorry you have 1,000 hour work weeks as well! Isn’t there a law against that in the UK??
We will always stick to your blog…we would love to know more about Maya and your random thoughts!
Thank you Purabinaha for your comment…so nice of you. 🙂 I appreciate your reading!
yeah!!! so glad you’re back!! loved the pics, can’t wait to catch up!! xoxo
Glad to see an update and seeing as I haven’t touched my blog in, oh, almost 2 years, I get how life/sanity sometimes has to take the front seat. Ali and my father sound like men cut from the same cloth. Hopelessly obtuse when it came to anything domestic. My sisters and I were always amazed that anyone let our dad run an actual company since he couldn’t find a plate in the kitchen to save his life.
Hi Heather, so good to see a comment from you! And I feel the same way about my dad â he never used to do anything kitchen-related but has mellowed in his old age. 🙂 Letâs see if that happens to Ali? Fingers crossedâ¦.
I don’t comment often but I do check your blog nearly daily.
Thank you Will…I appreciate you reading!!
whoo hoo welcome back! Happy (late) moms day 🙂 Take a break from your 1,000 hour work week soon!
Thank you B (belatedly). I hope that you are doing well and had a great Mother’s Day too!
I’ve been reading your blog for a little while now, and even if you don’t update it frequently, I’d still love to read. Hope your Mother’s Day was at least a little extra special!
PS in the last photo, is that a white shirt or coat that you’re wearing? I really like the collar.
Thank you Rock Star! I appreciate you reading. 🙂
And we live reading about your randomness. Thank you for writing when you can
