a coat

November 13, 2013

The last 7 days have been extraordinarily busy work-wise.

This is why I’ve had little time to ponder why Ali’s super fashionable earmuffs are working my last nerve. Or why, despite having at least 15 drinking glasses, there is never a single one available when I feel like a drink of water.

photo 3

Maybe we could conclude that my lack of inspiration this week is due to my extreme thirst. Not sure.

I’m too dehydrated to focus.

Which is why I’m about to blog about something as interesting to you as watching paint dry: The coat I bought last week.

photo 4

My new coat:

  • Is Green
  • Is Long
  • Is Warm
  • Is Wool
  • Fits me Perfectly
  • Was Reasonably Priced

photo 1

So what’s the problem you’re wondering? Why are you rambling on and on about your coat, Ameena?

Well here’s the problem: The designer is Jessica Simpson.

It seems surreal that I now own something designed by Jessica Simpson and I’m not really sure why. I mean I don’t dislike Jessica. Although I don’t particularly love her either. I mean, who divorces Nick Lachey?

(Although his latest “projects” have me wondering a little bit less).

photo 2

So if I’m indifferent about Jessica why am I troubled that her name is scrawled over the inside of my coat? I have no idea. But I have no idea why Ali isn’t bothered by his ridiculous-looking earmuffs either.

So I’m thinking that many questions just don’t have answers…

The coat looks great on you! And does really fit perfectly.
Did you enjoy the first snow today?! There’s more to come.
Funnily I bought a new coat this week too but I’ll admit I have put handbags and other things back just because they were Jessica Simpson 🙂 the logo was too conspicuous !

    • November 14, 2013 6:50 am

The snow on Tuesday was amazing! And it wasn’t too cold either. It’s weird how it got cold when the snow went away??

  2. November 13, 2013 12:30 am

Jessica Simpson – I watched her reality TV show. I admit this openly. And were we not collectively appalled by her child-like behaviour? Her attachment to her mother?

    Just me, then.

Take heart in this – Jessica probably had about 0.01% involvement in the entire process. i.e – she walks into the ACTUAL designer’s studio and says yes or no to the designs she likes. And then she gets promoting.

So you’re likely to be wearing a coat that’s designed and manufactured by some rather talented folk.

Plus you look awesome in it.

Are you able to remove the label? DO IT.

    • November 14, 2013 6:51 am

I loved Newlyweds…I really loved it. So sad when they got a divorce. n

Good point about Jessica being involved in the process so little. Knowing this makes me feel 100% better about my coat. 🙂

  3. November 13, 2013 2:43 am

OMG i know i have a pair of Jessica Simposon shoes… I’m so embarrassed, but they are kind of perfect. Maybe i should paint over the label? What do you think?
You do look pretty awesome in your coat. If it makes u feel any better Jessica Simposn would never be able to fit into it LOL… I’m so horrid…

Actually, my MIL has a pair of Jessica Simpson shoes and they are quite pretty. It’s weird how I know this and yet I still don’t want to wear Jessica’s stuff….

  4. November 13, 2013 3:43 am

i agree, the coat is perfect. and the j. simp factor just makes it somewhat hilarious – plus it’s a secret only you (and all your closest blogging friends) know about 🙂 i don’t miss cold at all, but i totally miss COATS.

    • November 14, 2013 6:53 am

I really do LOVE coats…even when I used to live in LA and there was so little need for them. I get what you’re saying Sarah!

It seems luckily for me, Jessica Simpson has completely passed me by!! Your coat looks great who cares what the lining says?! GG

    • November 14, 2013 6:54 am

Do they carry Jessica’s stuff in the UK? I don’t recall seeing it!

  6. November 13, 2013 4:48 am

the coat fits you so well and your hair looks amazing as always 🙂 maybe you can remove the hideous label?

    • November 14, 2013 6:55 am

Thanks for the compliments Dixya…I’m not too worried about the label showing. Just don’t really want to see it myself. 🙂

  7. November 13, 2013 5:00 am

That coat is really cute. Sometimes I wish celebrities would just stick to what they’re good at and stop doing and saying stupid things…that way we wouldn’t be perplexed about things like this!

    • November 14, 2013 6:56 am

Good point. Jessica does perplex me. Everything she does is confusing (including her strange song choices).

  8. November 13, 2013 5:20 am

    I like the coat 🙂
My friend has a similar coat and of the same ‘brand’ and I have to admit it is so sexy.
I just have a belt by the brand, and hate to say it but her stuff is kind of stylish.

You’ll get used to it, trust me! Love Maya’s pic!

    • November 14, 2013 6:56 am

As I stay warm in my coat, I am getting used to it already Z. 🙂

Cute coat. I too would struggle with something Jessica Simpson ‘designed’ for absolutely no reason at all. I don’t think I could buy it. I’m not a fashionista by any means. .
I’m jealous Ali has stylish ear muffs. Where’s the picture? We were in Montreal last weekend and it was freezing and windy. My ears get so cold. I tried to buy a hat before we went but I looked like a freak in them.
We never run out of glasses here. However, I always seem to be picking them up from the oddest places in the house.
Now, if it’s a matter of life and death (i.e. dehydaration) I would suggest you buy disposable paper/plastic cups. While not good for the environment, your health comes first 🙂

    • November 14, 2013 6:58 am

Ali wouldn’t let me post a picture of his earmuffs…I’ll be sure never to take him to Montreal in the winter!

LOL at the disposable cup idea. I find glasses ALL OVER THE PLACE. Including next to Ali’s bed. And Maya’s bed. No wonder there aren’t any in the kitchen.

  10. November 13, 2013 7:42 am

Love your style of writing – and your coat – (despite the designer..) AND -. also loved the gorgeous pictures – really autumn colors … summer all the time over here … not bad though:-) Best to you!

    • November 14, 2013 6:59 am

Thank you Eli for your compliments!

This is the first time I’m really getting to enjoy fall and I love it. 🙂

  11. November 13, 2013 7:51 am

it’s very cute! my coat is warm but short so my butt suffers.

    • November 14, 2013 7:00 am

I have to do the longer coat thing…especially being so tall. I have a nice DKNY one that’s even longer and warmer. Highly recommend cover one’s butt. 🙂

The coat looks great on you so forget the label and just wear it like you got it at Bergdorf’s.

    • November 14, 2013 7:00 am

I’ve never bought anything at Bergdorf’s so I’m thinking this would be the next best thing? 🙂

  13. November 13, 2013 8:10 am

I LOVE the new coat, Ameena! It’s green and fabulous and suits you perfectly, so I don’t care who made it. “Oh, Ali” is all I have to say about the earmuffs. Also, please keep posting New York park pictures, and I’ll continue to be jealous. Thanks! 🙂

    • November 14, 2013 7:01 am

Thanks for the compliments Jenna…and I will continue to post the NY pictures as I am OBSESSED with the fall leaves.

  14. November 13, 2013 8:14 am

That coat looks fabulous on you! Love the toggles 🙂 You could always do what I do with tags: cut them out or cover them up with something. Or use it as an excuse to get another awesome coat! 😉

    • November 14, 2013 7:03 am

I see many more coats in my near future. As the temps keep dipping down.

And the toggles? I am a huge fan. 🙂

  15. November 13, 2013 10:00 am

I love this coat! But then again, I also have a Sean John shirt I wear to bed and refuse to part with because it’s so darn comfortable. So clearly, I don’t have the best standards for dubious celebrity designers. But yeah, keep the coat, it’s fantastic!

LOVe that coat! The color & style are just perfect. It looks good on you Ameena. I have some Jessica Simpson shoes too. They’re cute and comfy and affordable so I’m happy.. 🙂
I like that pictures of you guys with the fall foliage in the background. New York in the fall is the best!

    • November 14, 2013 7:04 am

So interesting how many people own things but Jessica! I love reading these comments…

  17. November 13, 2013 10:36 am

I like your coat, despite the brand. If we are coming clear completely, I will admit that my favorite pair of nude pumps are made by Jessica Simpson. Just don’t tell anyone, okay?

I’ve never owned anything by Jessica Simpson before, but umm.. can you provide a link to where to purchase that coat? 🙂

    • November 14, 2013 7:04 am

I bought it at Loehmann’s but it’s for sale on Amazon as well!

  19. November 13, 2013 12:30 pm

You look very “cool” in that coat Ameena!! It flatters your good looks. Loved the photograph of Maya!!! She looks very cute 🙂

    • November 14, 2013 7:05 am

Thanks for all the compliments Nandita! I appreciate it.

  20. November 13, 2013 12:30 pm

It’s a great coat. I’m more surprised by the fact that Jessica Simpson’s design team came up with something non-garish and non-whorey.

    • November 14, 2013 7:05 am

This is hysterical…totally agree. Jessica’s clothing line is so different from her own taste. Makes me laugh.

  21. November 13, 2013 2:00 pm

you look amazing and i love the coat! i’m surprised too whenever i pick up a shoe and discover it’s by J simpleton. she has good help 😉

  22. November 13, 2013 2:26 pm

Love the coat! Jessica Simpson really knocked it out of the park with her clothing and shoes. I have a pair of pumps from her and I did kind of have to get over that they were hers because I kept seeing so many cute things.

    • November 15, 2013 4:39 am

So many people are raving about her shoes that I think I may need to check them out!

  23. November 13, 2013 2:43 pm

The coat looks really good on you, I do like Jessica’s stuff, but I haven’t bought anything from her line for some reason.
Her shoes are hot, but SOOOOO high. I’ll check out the coat, it looks like a cross between fall and winter… that 30 degree mark.

    • November 15, 2013 4:40 am

It’s a nice coat but more appropriate for 40 degree weather or more. I broke out my bigger coat this week Nisha…it was COLD!

  24. November 13, 2013 3:13 pm

That coat looks lovely on you! I could not look at that coat and think Jessica Simpson, however…

    • November 15, 2013 4:40 am

Agreed. I couldn’t imagine Jessica wearing something so conservative either!

  25. November 13, 2013 6:14 pm

There is nothing quite like a great coat, regardless of the brand! I have a funny story about the time I met Jessica Simpson when I was, like, 13, and she was, well, not much older. And wearing a Santa suit.

    • November 15, 2013 4:40 am

Interesting. She’s one celeb I’ve never seen, despite living in LA. I bet she was beautiful even at 13!

  26. November 13, 2013 7:51 pm

Coat looks great, luckily the tag is tucked in on the inside of your coat! I had a pair of Jessica Simpson sunglasses and had no idea until I looked closer. I think maybe they don’t display her name obviously for a reason 😉
    Is that Ali running?

    • November 15, 2013 4:41 am

Ali run? Not in a million years.

No, it’s just a random picture I took in Central Park…I thought it looked like something out of a movie.

  27. November 13, 2013 9:04 pm

You look stunning Ameena. Maya looks super cute. I showed this coat to my Father, I told him it will keep me toasty warm and that its reasonably priced as well, but he said shipping charges, custom charges and duty charges are all unreasonably priced:( You looooook beautiful and this is my fav color:)

    • November 15, 2013 4:42 am

I’m so sorry you can’t get the coat. I’m sure the additional fees aren’t really worth it…I guess Jessica’s stuff isn’t available in the UK? Does Amazon.uk have it?

  28. November 14, 2013 2:06 pm

I had to laugh at you never being able to find a glass for water. That’s how my apartment is with forks. We have tons of them, but every time I go to eat dinner they’re all magically dirty.

    • November 15, 2013 4:43 am

We have the same problem with forks. I need to just go out and buy a bunch of each!!

  29. November 15, 2013 9:48 pm

The coat is fantastic. Jessica Simpson has to be good for something!
    I guess.
And also, men in earmuffs should be outlawed. But I expect to see it on The Sartorialist any day now.

  30. November 16, 2013 5:37 pm

Jessica aside, look at you all gorgeous in that amazing coat. Rip the label off and you are good to go 😉

  31. November 21, 2013 4:40 am

You look great. I dislike having “name” brand clothing. L.L. Bean is the closest I come. I have my own issues with Jessica. But that has a whole Weight Watchers connection that I won’t get into. You look great!
