41,760 minutes later and Ramadan is finally over. And not a minute too soon as I was hanging on by a very thin thread.
Aside from losing more weight, developing even darker under eye circles, and taking multiple steps backwards in my eczema recovery, I am pleased to report that I actually came away from the experience having learned a few things:
- Ali will never hesitate or feel bad asking me to make him lunch when I’m fasting.
- I really can get sick of thinking/hearing/reading about food. Food Network and I are on a break.
- I am an impatient person and nothing in the world is going to change that. Least of all Ramadan.
On a separate note, my dad claims you can ask for absolutely anything during Ramadan and it will come true. I had my doubts since my dad says a lot of stuff that makes no sense, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to test his little theory.
So I sat down, shut my eyes really tight, and wished upon a star that my husband would clean up his crap. And guess what?
It worked. Miracles do happen.

Eid Mubarak Ameena. Trust me Miracles do happen. No matter how small or big it is.Loved the post as usual 🙂
Thank you Nishi!
Eid Mubarak Ameena.I admire your honesty in your writing. That is why I enjoy reading your posts so much.I feel you would like it if you checked my new blog http://www.dazzlersdiary.wordpress.com ‘s WHATS NEW section.
Cheers!
Thank you Anita! And thanks for the link – I will definitely check it out.
I don’t think I have become a better person this ramadan 😦 hopefully I will be able to reflect on this and become more patient! Eid Mubarak!
Eid Mubarak Sana!
I was wondering when it would be over. I was just in London and restaurants were PACKED after sundown.
Now I kinda wish I celebrated Ramadan. I would ask to eat during the day if I could ask for things!
Since there are so many awesome restaurants in London, I would ask to be in London!
Whoah, that really is a miracle 😀
Eid Mubarak daaaaahling! I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating. I too am absolutely sick of browsing food on the net like a dirty old man addicted to porn (gross!). I am so looking forward to getting back into my natural routine and normal sleeping pattern.
*kisses* HH
Eid Mubarak Hana! I hope you had a wonderful day with normal eating and sleeping. I am SO looking forward to that tomorrow!
Congrats on making it to the end! Enjoy getting back to your normal routine!
Thank you Amy. 🙂
Congrats!! How did I miss that Ali wasn’t fasting with you AND that he asked you to make him lunch?! At least he cleaned up his toys 😉
Ali apparently felt he was exempt this year. Go figure…
Patient, I’m not and I’ve been working on it a lot longer than you. I think it’s just something we have to work around. I have a wonderful husband who never can find things when it’s time to go out the door, even though he just said he’s ready to leave. Heavy sigh…I work with it. No solutioin, you just have to think about something else while tapping your foot. Some one help us!!
My husband does the same thing! Drives me freaking NUTS!
Happy Eid Mubarak Ameena! Yay for a wish comes true. Now do it again for moving to New York City! 🙂
Now I’m wondering why I wasted my wish on something so silly when I could be living in NYC right now?
Wow – nice to know that wishes come true. I have a few of my own 🙂
I have always believed that miracles happen every day… and you are living proof! Oh to have a meal with the sun again. Hey – you can now be a food blogger.
The Food Network and I have broken up also. You’d think I’d be all over it now that I am in the States. I have tried, but I just want to slap everyone on the screen. We’re done for now.
I think that many other people are all Food Networked out right now. Too many food shows on TV!
It’s a Ramadan miracle!!
Seriously woman, I don’t know how you do it. The fasting, not so much the dealing with clutter. That’s a beast I take on every day and feel your pain.
The fasting is hard but at least I know that at sunset it comes to an end. The clutter? There is NO END!
Congratulations in making it through… I thought you would be asking for NYC but at least this year it was something easier 😉 I didn’t do that good with all the eathquakes and hurracanes gave up about a week ago… Next year
Kudos to you Kathy for doing as much as you did. You had no reason to do it which makes it count all the more!
Congrats on making it all the way through. 🙂
Next year, ask for a million dollars. AND for Ali to clean up his crap.
Thank you Leah!
Congrats! That is a serious accomplishment and practice of will power! Especially when you are the only one in your house doing it! I admire you for sticking to your beliefs and getting through it, with a little help from miracles 😉
Being the only one in the house made it a bit easier actually because nobody could argue that I had the roughest day among the 3 of us. 🙂
You made it! What’s the first thing you are going to eat (or have eaten) in the light of day? I’d be going to town!
I had 3 pieces of smoked salmon, tomatoes, and a tiny piece of pita bread before I was full. It’s going to take me a while to get back on track!
Ha! Does it count if other people ask you to make wishes for them?
I’d love a new car.
Or maybe just an ice cream…wait is it too early to talk about food?
I very selfishly believe that I can only wish for myself. 🙂
oh my gosh! A Ramadan miracle. I am so happy about this!! it’s the little things.
It is the little things. Absolutely.
Haha, truly is a Ramadan miracle! Next time you should wish for something really big! lol
Next time I’ll strategize a bit better…
Ha!! Here is to hoping that same wish will come true for me. Husbands and their darn crap!! So infuriating. Glad you are almost done! But yeah for weight loss. Usually a good thing.
I don’t think I needed to lose anymore weight but I suppose it’s better than putting it on?
Eid Mubarak Ameena. Hope you and your family have a great celebration. xoxo
Thank you Piya!
Miracles do come true! That is awesome, go Ali!
I would never make Andy food if I was fasting. You’re a better wife than I.
Oh Amanda….I might make Ali a sandwich when fasting but I am 100% sure you are a better wife in every single other way! I’m sure he’d agree.
🙂 well they do say the way to a man’s heart is via the stomach he he he ..
and thats a good idea to fast for so many days to lose wait maybe i shud give it a try and do so …
When Ali’s stomach is happy he is (usually) happy so I guess the saying is true…
Congrats on the miracle and being done with fasting!
Thank you. 🙂
—Wishes come true. Brava. Bravo.
Give hubs a big kiss xxx
The space looks Fab.
I would have wished for a new camera!
is that selfish?
🙂
I decided last week I was done cooking dinner each and every night and you know what??
my guys started making things.
YAY
glad it’s over and you can feel better my friend!
Thank you Cindy! And a new camera is really quite unselfish since many people benefit, not just you!
Congrats on surviving Ramadan. It definitely looks like it was worth the sacrifice!
Thank you Julie!
Eid Mubarak Ameena. I enjoy reading your post so much all the time. You write from your heart!
Thank you Kankana, you are very kind!
Wow it’s almost over? I’ve never realized Ali isn’t fasting during Ramadhan..any particular reason? Anyway Eid Mubarak Ameena (I figured it’s the way to say Happy Eid ul-Fitr?) Have fun celebrating with your family 🙂
Apparently Ali felt like he was exempt this year…not sure why but he just didn’t want to participate!
Yay it’s over! I’m glad some good lessons came from it for you. My mom always tells me that when you fast or do something of that sort, you can ask for something (with a pure heart) and it will come true. 🙂 I’m glad you’re wish came true! 😉
Your mom and my dad probably went to the same school of thought. 🙂
Hee! Love it! Do you think that would work for anyone? For anything? 🙂 XO
It doesn’t hurt to try Galit!
My Amina said that if I tried fasting her way (Ramadan) then she would try my way – 24 hours, but I could never do it her way because I must drink. I must have water. I must have coffee.
Maybe your husband sensed a nervous breakdown was imminent.
What is your way Jennie? Do you not eat or drink anything for 24 hours? For how many days?
From your lips to Gods ears! Congrats on your strength the last month!
Thank you Divya!
Eid Mubarak, soulmate! The moment I saw that snap of Ali’s technology round-up, I decided I kind of want to keep it in my heart forever.
I’m glad you survived yet another year of fasting, and just in-time for the start of a new school year for Maya. I will toast to your intact sanity tonight.
I kind of want to keep it in my heart forever as well Kat. I’m glad you understand the importance of the picture!
Eid Mubarak to you guys!
Eid Mubarak Nadia!
You stayed so strong! Love how your dad believes that, maybe it IS true. 🙂
Ali’s clean up is proof! 🙂
congrats on making it through!!! and on your little miracle. that’s incredible. you have about 11 months to come up with a great one for next year’s ramadan.
Absolutely – I need to think up next year’s wish a little more carefully.
Happy Eid Ameena! 🙂 It felt like Ramadan took ages to go by, so I hope that it will feel incredibly long until it graces us again next year.
Eid Mubarak Rasha!
Congrats on making it through. This year was particularly brutal. Love that Ali is keeping tidy- thank goodness for small pleasures!
Eid mubarak to you and the family!
Eid Mubarak Sam!
You made it!!! Now eat everything you want!
The sad thing is that I am full after 3 minutes of eating.
You did it!
And I guess dads really do know it all huh? I’ll be fifty and still going to pops for his two cents.
I’m 35 and I’m just realizing that my dad does know some stuff. 🙂 I never gave him credit!
Well congratulations on making it through! I am still stuck on seeing Ali’s clutter free desk 🙂
Hope you are having a great week…
I’m still stuck on Ali’s clean desk too…you aren’t the only one!
So, if I follow Ramadan next year and then ask the Universe for my husband to clean up, will it work? Think it would work during Lent? Ask your dad for me, will ya 🙂
My dad says: YES!
You should be able to ask for a lot more after fasting for that long. But it’s a start.
I can’t believe the month is over…I felt like I just read and heard people saying that Ramadan was starting…time really flies by in the summer!!
The month went a lot faster for those not fasting. 🙂
Eid Mubarak, Ameena!!!
I feel you on the foodness, I’m definitely jaded from all the cooking shows/recipes/etc
Eid Mubarak Sara!
No clutter and the Food Network back…life is looking up for you.
Congratulations! I hope that you had multiple wishes going on…
Now, when does Maya start back to school? Will that also be a wish fulfilled?!
Maya starts on September 7th! So one more week and the celebrations will really start.
Sometimes I take a break from Food Network as well 😉 baking never gets old though for me haha.
Glad you are happy Ramadan is over.
So glad for you that all that fasting is over, Ameena! I honestly don’t know how you do it. I have no will power whatsoever when it comes to food. Hubby knows not to mess with me and my food. When he gets home from work, he let’s me eat first while he feeds the little one. Yup, that right there just shows what a complete b**** I can be when I’m hungry. He’d rather starve than deal with hungry LeeQs. Haha.
Hmm…next time I think you should go for more than one wish. What’s the worst that could happen? So your wish doesn’t come true and you’re left with a drawer full of wires to strangle the hubby with. Not so bad. 😉
I’m already beginning to think of next year’s wishes…I know that at least one involves getting rid of the wires! But maybe there is a benefit to having them on hand after all?
Congrats to you!!!! You are such a strong woman – I don’t know how you do it!!! And wow – I must say lucky lady, you hubby picking up after himself – or rather cleaning!!! Hope it lasts for you!!!!
It didn’t last Amy. It didn’t last. 😦
Hope all your other wishes come true too.
Eid Mubarak!
Thank you Chandana!
Yay! You made it!!
Well, I hope you at least didn’t have to WATCH him eat the lunch you prepared him! There’s nothing worse than watching someone chow down while you stomach is curled into a tiny little aching ball. Lunch prep is bad enough. You are a strong, strong woman.
Ali didn’t exactly go in another room. But the truth is that watching others eat didn’t really bother me, especially because Maya was eating non-stop!
well hot dang, maybe we should all do this so that our husbands will clean up their mess. Is this a guarantee? haha. Jk. But really, congrats. You impress me, as always.
Totally guaranteed. 100%!
You my friend are gifted in commitment. I don’t think I would have made it through. If I’m hungry, nothing gets done. I agree with some of the other comments, test that theory next year by asking for something you really want – get your book published:)
Oh yes…the book. The only thing is that I haven’t quite finished it yet. Unfortunately. Maybe I could wish for the discipline to finish it?
Maybe you was thinking aloud – after being put through so much during Ramadan. Or Maybe he wished he could read your mind and his wish came true too.
🙂
If he could read my mind he’d probably be long gone by now….
You may be impatient, but you certainly are determined as well. I never could have done that, faith or not.
The least the universe owed you back was a tidy husband. Maybe next year you can wish for a live-in housekeeper?
Then I’d have to wish for a bigger house because with 2 bedrooms we have no space for a live-in. This wishing game is a vicious circle isn’t it?
Look at all those gadgets! I think Ali and Jonathan would be two peas in a pod. Or maybe they would just share a pod and instead of talking they would ping each other and gchat.
Oddly enough I haven’t heard the word “gchat” come out of Ali’s mouth before. I wonder if he participates?
Miracles do happen, though I wish it happens frequently and not occasionally 😉
Congratulations! You’re so tough and brave!
hahah my Mom would wanna know the secret to that miracle 😀 … awesome post 😀 Hilarious as always 😀
and Oh Eid Mubarak 🙂
Thank you Eddie!
Can you say I am jealous.com. And yes Miracles do happen!!!
MIRACLE! I wish mine would clean his crap. We gave up one dresser to my roommate and he doesn’t have that many clothes, but all of them are strewn over half our room and it’s torturing me slowly.
So you fast and Ali doesn’t? I don’t think I could deal with someone eating around me if I wasn’t eating.
No, Ali decided to sit this year out. And last year. So it was just me fasting solo!
Eid Mubarak! It was difficult but we made it through!!!!
Eid Mubarak to you as well Gigi!
Sick of food? Impossible.
It is VERY possible. Especially when presented with my limited cooking abilities!
Eid Murbarak!
You need to start composing a list for the next Ramadan so all your wishes can come true…..
Thank you Leslie! My list is already in progress. 🙂
