November 27, 2013

I have many things to be thankful for this year:

First and foremost, Ali survived Sunday’s Arctic blast.

27 degrees = cabs. Lots of cabs.

27 degrees = cabs. Lots of cabs.

And although it was rather touch and go for a few moments, I survived Maya’s horrifically bad mood on Sunday.

Dinner @ Bice: Spaghetti, Apple Pie, Branzino, Molten Lava Cake

Oh, and Ali organized our collection of paper bags under the kitchen sink.

Talk about an unexpected surprise.

Lunch at Maison Kayser: Nicoise Salad and Smoked Salmon, Dessert @ CPK: Salted Caramel Pudding

We’ve also eaten some fairly decent food lately, none of which had to be cooked or cleaned up by me.

Maya and I @ Bice. One of our favorite places.

Maya and I @ Bice. One of our favorite places. Good food. Bad lighting.

And most importantly? We are in New York. And I’m not sure about the rest of my family but I Love It Here.

Thankful is an understatement.

Such a cute pic of Maya, love her hat! It’s great to hear you like NY, nothing is worse than moving to a city you dislike.

    • November 27, 2013 6:09 pm

      I can’t imagine moving to a city one doesn’t like…I lucked out!

  2. November 27, 2013 12:27 am

Is it wrong that when I read “27 degrees=cabs” my first thought was “yeah, cold weather is the time for a nice warming red wine!”?
Glad you’ve got so much good going on. Happy Thanksgiving!

    • November 27, 2013 6:09 pm

So funny…would have never occurred to me Ellen!

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well…I hope you have a great one.

  3. November 27, 2013 1:40 am

May you always have much to be thankful for daaaahling!
    *kisses* H
p.s. try the “cereals” baguette at Maison Kaiser. It is truly relish if you want to have a day off your gluten free regime, its worth it. I tried it in Paris.

    • November 27, 2013 6:10 pm

It turns out that I’m not gluten intolerant at all HH so I don’t have to worry about that anymore! I still don’t eat too much bread, just got so used to rice I guess.

But I might make an exception for a cereal baguette…I am intrigued!

27 degrees?!? That calls for way more carbs! And chocolate. So glad you guys are having a good time! Happy Thanksgiving!

    • November 27, 2013 6:12 pm

So much chocolate gets eaten in the cold weather. And the hot weather… 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! So glad your comments are coming through again!

  7. November 27, 2013 5:53 am

I must have some of that salted caramel pudding! And I’m glad you all survived your first arctic blast. The acid test of your love for NY will be a full winter there! 😉

    • November 27, 2013 6:14 pm

“Acid test.” I love it. So, so true.

Happy Thanksgiving to you Mama D!

    • November 27, 2013 6:15 pm

Wow…you just made my evening Parita! Thank you. 🙂

  9. November 27, 2013 6:44 am

I agree with the hair. You really need to thank your good fortune for that hair. And that face too now that we’re going down this road. 😉

Happy Thanksgiving my friend! And I feel the same way about New York. 🙂

    • November 27, 2013 6:15 pm

You are the sweetest! Thank you for all the compliments.

Love all the pics, too bad you couldn’t get into the pic on the first one. Your hair looks fabs as usual in the last one. All those food look so yummy and I agree, the best thing is you don’t have to prepare them nor clean them up afterwards 🙂
It’s your first Thanksgiving in NY! Are you going to see the Thanksgiving Parade or is it too cold for Ali? Happy Thanksgiving Ameena. Stay warm.

    • November 27, 2013 6:17 pm

We’ve been to NY for Thanksgiving for the last few years and we’ve seen the parade. Not sure we’ll venture out this time around. Ali might find it far too cold this year!

You stay warm too Lydia! Happy Thanksgiving!

You’re probably the only thing in New York that’s blooming right now, Ameena. New York is SO good for you! I’m so, so happy that your dream came true and you’re there now. Of course, it’ hasn’t gotten cold yet so time will tell how deep your love runs (seriously, it hasn’t). Happy Thanksgiving!

    • November 27, 2013 6:18 pm

This is such a sweet comment, thank you!

Let’s hope that the Arctic blast doesn’t get too much worse. 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

All in all, life sounds pretty great!

Did you cut your hair? I’ve been editing my book so I might have missed out.

    • November 27, 2013 6:19 pm

      I didn’t cut my hair…but I could probably use one, it’s been a while!

Editing your book! So exciting. So happy for you J.

That’s a cute picture of Ali and Maya in the cab!! Glad you guys survived the cold last weekend. The first of many many cold days :D. I love the Bice in Dubai. I wonder of it’s the same???!!

    • November 27, 2013 6:20 pm

I wonder if it is? I know they have lots of restaurants, not sure if they are international? But if I make it back to Dubai I know where I’ll be eating. 🙂

  16. November 27, 2013 9:59 am

Such a lovely, happy and positive post, with some seriously delicious looking food!

  17. November 27, 2013 10:05 am

So glad you’re enjoying New York despite the cold. Love Maya’s hat. GG

    • November 27, 2013 6:21 pm

Thanks GG! It was a recent purchase…I had my doubts but Maya loved it. 🙂

  18. November 27, 2013 10:22 am

Happy to hear you’re loving NY. I’m loving it here in Bay Area too. My joy shows in the food I dished out for a party at my place recently – http://momwithadot.blogspot.com/2013/11/happy-thanksgivingthe-feast.html

Ali comes up with the most unexpected, I say! Not socks, not wet towels, but something as detailed as plastic bags under the sink – wow!! He sure knows how to surprise 🙂

That’s a beautiful pic with Ali & Maya (love her smile) Don’t crop yourself out please….

    • November 27, 2013 6:22 pm

Ali does come up with the unexpected…he is gifted in that arena. Which isn’t always a good thing LOL!

My big head wouldn’t fit in the shot. Cropping was necessary! 🙂

  19. November 27, 2013 12:07 pm

    Happy Thanksgiving Ameena!

  20. November 27, 2013 1:31 pm

Maya is so cute, I can not get enough of her. You seem to be adjusting well to NYC. I like it. I am afraid for my trip in January, I am in California where the coldest day is still pretty warm. You guys look so bundled up, I might have to go winter shopping.

    • November 27, 2013 6:25 pm

On behalf of Maya, thank you!

And yes…but a very large wool coat with a hood. And gloves. And bring a few thick sweaters…this is my formula so far and it’s working. 🙂

  21. November 27, 2013 1:31 pm

    Happy Thanksgiving.))))
I LOVE how you add FOOD to all of your posts!! Xx

  22. November 27, 2013 2:16 pm

    • November 27, 2013 6:26 pm

We have been to Serendipity and sadly were unimpressed! The ice cream was just so overpriced and Maya wasn’t even a huge fan…

      • November 27, 2013 7:04 pm

i only.had the frozen hot chocolate…i loved it. anyway have a nice week!

  35. December 3, 2013 2:33 pm

Happy Thanksgiving Ameena. We too ate a lot of yummy food- most of it neither cooked nor cleaned up after by me. I am truly thankful for that! So funny that we are thankful for that!

I love my life. I wouldn’t choose a different path, as I know my path is mine and the realization of my dreams will be worth it. However, I would love to live your life for just one day…. You juggle so much, you seem to do it with grace, you have what seems like a ton of rich experiences and you look fabulous doing it all!

    Yes, just one day.

    Have a great day!
    Lindsey

    • December 25, 2013 12:11 pm

A belated thank you Lindsey for the very sweet comment below. I feel like I don’t do anything gracefully, least of all juggle everything that’s going on. So this comment really means SO MUCH.
